Meet Ali Stone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Stone.

Ali Stone

Hi Ali, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career working in corporate communications at Ford Motor Company, Brother International, and JLL. In 2016, I took a leap of faith and quit my corporate job in order to explore opportunities that aligned with my values and passions. I love music and I love helping people so I found myself applying my marketing skills by volunteering nearly full-time with a nonprofit organization born from the Phish community that issues micro-grants in support of music education in cities where the band plays.

When I learned Conscious Alliance was hiring for a marketing role, I jumped at the opportunity and have been with the organization for the past 6 years. In addition to overseeing marketing and communications, my role has expanded to co-managing our Art That Feeds events team and building digital partnerships with bands, brands, and artists.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Quitting my job wasn’t easy and proved obvious challenges, mainly living really frugally on the limited income I made freelancing as well as my savings. I felt a loss of security and that doesn’t feel great. There were definitely times I asked myself, what are you doing? However, taking that year off really helped shape my identity and gave me purpose, so I wouldn’t change a thing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a full-time Marketing Director at Conscious Alliance and a part-time graduate student at the University of Denver where I’m working to earn my Master’s in Nonprofit Leadership. Conscious Alliance is a hunger relief organization that leverages art, music, and brand partnerships to address food insecurity across the country.

We are known for our Art That Feeds Food Drives at concerts when attendees donate non-perishable food items in exchange for a screen-printed event poster created by some really amazing artists. I co-lead the Art That Feeds events team which leaves me working with a lot of our band partners; I love harnessing the power of music to make an impact. It’s really inspiring to work!

What matters most to you?
Right now in my life, family matters most to me. When my sister had a baby a year ago, I knew I wanted to have a presence in my nephew’s life and had an urge to be near family, so my husband and I moved from Colorado to Portland, OR. Family is an important value for me.
