Meet Allie Wu of Gateway Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Wu.

Hi Allie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve always dreamed of opening my bakery, but I chose nursing instead. 1.5 years ago, I was bored and scrolling through Instagram to satisfy my food porn addiction. I stumbled upon decorated sugar cookies and have not climbed out of this rabbit hole. Bakin’ Allie has allowed me to open a bakery and check off one of my goals in life. It has also been a creative outlet for me to escape the stress of nursing amidst this pandemic.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, though it has been rewarding. The primary barrier at the beginning was struggling with imposter syndrome and wondering whether my cookies were good enough. Learning how to run a business was also a challenge. I did not know how to market or run things efficiently, and I also had to learn a lot about Colorado Cottage Food Laws to ensure my business was in full compliance.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a decorated sugar cookie artist. I specialize in custom-decorated sugar cookies that elevate any event. I take time to research and put in little details my clients have not even considered, making each set truly thoughtfully designed. I am most proud of providing one-of-a-kind, beautiful, and delicious edible art.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is constantly improving. I know I am continually improving when I often achieve a level of quality I could not reach before, from the taste of my cookies to the techniques used to create visual quality in each piece.
