Meet Andrea Aguilar of Andrea Anali – Mindful Business

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Aguilar.

Hi Andrea, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a Textile Design Graduate who started my career working for a multinational company as a Junior Buyer for Women Clothing departments and at the same time, launching a Women Shoe Brand. After 3 years as a corporate woman and 6 years with my own entrepreneurship, a life-changing event in my life put everything into perspective: I became a mom. And with that, I also became very time-limited. I realized with a Newborn I had very little time to work and decided that, the little time I had, I really wanted to spend it in something I truly loved.

I quitted my corporate job because I knew very soon that workforce is not thought for us as women and our true needs (especially not for moms with a ridiculously short maternity leave). And I also realized that I wasn’t finding a true fulfillment in the Shoe Brand neither. To be honest, at that point, I was even wondering what my true passion and strengths were. That is why, I decided to ask for help and went through different mentors, exercises, and tools to reconnect with my truest self, strengths, and passion.

That is how I discovered I love to learn and to teach. I am always looking to learn and improve my skills, whether it is a new language or a new skill … And I also love sharing my knowledge. I believe knowledge is made to be shared, back when I think about my former job as a junior buyer or as an entrepreneur, I was always sharing my best practices with colleagues and other entrepreneurs and finding ways to help them through their projects. So, with all this inner work; I decided I wanted to share it with women entrepreneurs because, I also realized we as women, live entrepreneurship totally different than men and that there were very few resources addressed to our reality.

Entrepreneurship is twice harder for us and will continue to be as long as we don’t shift our mindsets and start creating a more equal environment at our homes and businesses for us to claim our right to work on something we love. Because we all have the need to work, and it has nothing to do with finance. It is about claiming your right to have your unicorn space, to feel helpful and valuable to your environment and I believe you may achieve this through creating your own business with 100% suited conditions to your lifestyle and needs.

Having all that in my mind is how I decided to create online courses and tools focused on women to launch, grow or improve their business. They are all in Spanish because they are addressed also to a minority: Hispanic Women Entrepreneurs. It was important for me to create resources in their language because one of the main barriers for Hispanic Women in the US to succeed is Language. So, by creating all this resources in their language, they are not only able to truly understand every concept but to feel they are being seen, and that there’s a place that actually cares about them at every level. My goal is not only to provide women with hard skills (Strategy, Marketing, Sales, Design, Finance, etc); but also, soft skills such as Organization, Productivity, and Empowerment, so we can all be able to make the changes in us and our environment to create and claim the most fair conditions to have success in our businesses.

My ultimate goal is to lead women through empowerment, personal/professional fulfillment, and financial freedom with entrepreneurship as a main path to achieve it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every worthy project has its struggles. The main struggle I faced was time and guilt. Launching a new business with a Newborn is beyond hard and exhausting. And it brings mom guilt too. But that’s how I actually learned about shifting mindset and creating fair conditions for me to succeed in my project, being guilt-free. I had to make RADICAL arrangements with my partner, so we may start having a “fair play” in terms of co-responsibility and unpaid domestic work. And I can tell, here is where probably 50% of my success relies today. My business works today because I am not the only one running the house. Because I created a team with my partner in which I am able to have several hours a day to be 100% invested in my business and still have peace of mind that everything at home and with my child is doing well. And I am aware of my privilege, I know that the same 50% that makes my business run every day, is the same percentage that many women are missing and that is keeping them from succeed in their careers. Not every mother has a co-responsible partner or an environment that pushes her to succeed. That is why I work every day to bring not only awareness but to change workforce actual conditions. We, women, need society and government to support us and change the systems that had us belief that if you are a woman, professional fulfillment and financial freedom is optional.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Andrea Anali – Mindful Business?

I have to be honest; I currently work with organizations in Denver and I have students from there… but never been there. That’s the magic of being a Digital Nomade! But definitely looking forward to soon visit your city and the great landscapes your mountains have to offer.
