Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Ruppert
Hi Anna , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi. My name is Anna. I am 28 years old and my story starts with my adoption.
I was adopted at 5 month by my wonderful family. My mom and dad, sister, my older brother and my grandma. I grew up in California all of my life. I was a competitive gymnast from the age from 4- 16 and began my coaching career at age 13. I have been coaching ever since. I have worked several another careers as well. I have worked in the veterinary field, at a lumber mill for seasonal work with my brother who is a log scaler in Humbolt County. Since a younger age Ive always loved to draw. I have been drawing as long as I can remember. I really wanted to make a carrier of it as a tattoo artist and still hope to one day. I have an amazing mentor that help me progress in my drawing. His name is Matt Miller. He is a tattoo artist in Oakland. I hope to one day apprentice with him for tattooing. I also love to paint. I especially love drawing cartoons, anime, lately its been more realistic art work. I have also been very fortunate to get to work with Johnathan Gauer of The Cat’s Glasses in Denver, CO. He given me several great opportunities to turn his album cover ideas in to real art. Being able to put someones vision its reality has been process I haven’t done in photoshop and it was a very challenging and exciting experience. I try to enter my art in the AV Fair every year if possible, it fun to have people come to see what you created. I am currently waiting to see if I have successfully made it into the Radiology Program at AVC, until the I am focusing my own personal study on physical therapy to help my athletes and myself prevent more injuries. And thats the quick version of me. A few things i love, studio ghibili movies, drawing, animals, thai food and a good story. A recent one I’ve come to love is the art of voice acting. I have afriend who does voice acting and his range is incredible really fun to watch. Ill draw a character and he’ll surprise me with doing the voice. Its a fun game!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For me, I have struggled with my own personal problems like anyone else. I think i am fortunate to have such patient parent and loving siblings who all support me in what I do. I have struggled with ADHD, anxiety and depression through my childhood as well as adulthood. ADHD was especially hard as a kid. The one thing that really help was actually doing paint by number. Those kept my brain preoccupied for hours.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For me, I love to draw and paint cartoons. Cartoon characters, studio ghibli character, and anime especially. I like the challenge of getting things the way they are in the picture Im using. Or how something is invisioned in my head. I’ve always loved cartoon, I still do. I watch them almost everyday. I really wanted to be an animator for a while but I found i prefer making art and not selling it. I do commission on request. Giving it as a gift or as a favor is always more fun. I also love tattoo art. I was close to doing an apprenticeship with an artist but it just never happened. I’ve hoping to try again someday. The creation of tattoo is fascinating. The traditional style, verses geometric, portrait or cartoon. These so many style to explore and create from. Getting to work in a studio for a few days was eye opening. The way the business is ran and the creation process of different artist is incredible to watch. Everyone has their own niche and thats what makes each of them unique. I hope to discover my own style one day.
How do you think about luck?
I think i am just fortunate to have good people in my life that support me and want me to succeed and are willing to help me on the way.
