Meet ‘As of Today’ of the University of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to As of Today.

Hi As of Today, thank you for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We met in the beginning of the last school year, as we were almost all beginning our time at the Lamont School of Music. Most of us had a number of classes together and became friends. We were all eager to be a part of a band, so we decided to make that happen. The band started meeting consistently during the Winter/Spring of last year, and got right into writing originals with our first song, “As the Sun Explodes.” Since then, we’ve grown together and gotten to play many shows around the DU campus area as well as a few downtown Denver at D3 Arts, Larimer Lounge, and Levitt Pavilion. We have also recorded, mixed and released our own two singles, “As the Sun Explodes” and “Franklin Street.” Our passion for music as well as the joy it brings us and others keeps us inspired to play and create more. It’s really special to see our individual as well as collective growth together as musicians, composers, audio engineers, and performers since the beginning of this band, and are excited for what comes next. We are hoping to release more music soon and continue to play live around Colorado and wherever else life takes us.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is definitely tricky navigating songwriting, scheduling, recording, mixing, and music distributing services for the first time in a group, but luckily we all add individual strengths to the band and can help each other out. We are also lucky to have professors who want to help us succeed and are available to answer any questions we have or offer feedback.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We play indie rock music around Denver and are always working on writing more and looking to play new venues. We are proud of our original music and releases, which we have been so lucky to get so much positive feedback on. We love to see when listeners dance and are able to have a good time to our music. We have discussed how one of our goals is to make music that people can connect to as well as enjoy, and to see our original music impact people in that way is so special and inspires us.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
All of our friends in and outside of the music school, as well as family members who consistently come to shows, listen to our music, and encourage us, deserve so much credit. We are lucky to have many friends who consistently show up to gigs (even the rainy ones), sing our music back to us, and keep us encouraged to know that at the end of the day, we still have people other than ourselves that appreciate our music. We also are grateful to our professors at the Lamont School of Music including Marion Powers, Bijoux Barbosa, and Peter Stoltzman who have made themselves available for any questions we have about the music world, and given us feedback that pushes us to grow into even better musicians.
