Meet Aubrena Wilkins of Healthy Hair Vibes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrena Wilkins.

Hi Aubrena, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2015, I was using relaxers that they became a close friend of mine. During this time, I didn’t consider that treating and nourishing my hair should have been a top priority. My hair started to shed and thin out rapidly. I also had a bad habit of ponytails, which was the cause of my hairline reseding. I knew I had to make a change immediately. I first went on a hunt trying every product in the world aka Product Junkie. It was overwhelming and highly expensive buying everything in sight. I wanted a shampoo that was not harsh, delicate on the hair, and pop my curls while detoxing the excessive sebum on my scalp. I also wanted to create an oil that helps with dry hair since I also had low porosity hair. You may ask what is low porosity hair? Well to explain, imagine your hair strand as an umbrella, the umbrella is closed when washing it, it’s harder for the water or any protein to dive through the hair shaft. And because of this, this is where a lot of hair dryness comes into play. Lastly, an herbal treatment that would grow the hair and strengthen the hair, but also maintain a beautiful shine and healthier look.

My love of diverse hairstyles and proper hair care began in late December late 2015 and early 2016 after my BIG CHOP. I wanted to put the effort and set aside one day out of the week to treating my hair. Using my self-made products, the results were remarkable. Going from short pixie to mid-back length. And it all paid off.

In 2017, I went to get my license as a Cosmetologist and learn more about the scientific of formulas, and how I can help every walk of life treat and nourish their hair back to life. I created a product from research and learning different treatments, which then drastically turned into my true passion. At this point, I knew I had to share this with the world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have many challenges along the way. Finding the right market to brand my product especially during the pandemic. Finding reliable suppliers that held the amount of inventory I needed. At one point I became fearful that my business might not rocket off. It was times I tried to maintain a mentality that things will get better and persevere.

We’ve been impressed with Healthy Hair Vibes, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At healthy hair vibes, we offer our mint shampoo, hair mask treatment and herbal oil. Many of my consultations, 85 percent of women admit they do not treat their hair and are scared to cut their hair regardless of how damaged it is. This result proves many were concerned to preserving length instead of creating healthy hair. So many women allow their hair length or texture to define who they are. During the design of the label, we wanted women to know that our product wasn’t designed based on the perfect curl. Healthy Hair Vibes brand motivates and encourages young to older individuals that good hair is healthy hair not hair texture.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t attribute much of my business success to luck. There were some doing on my part, whether conscious or not, that manifested Healthy Hair Vibes. Everything I’ve done or thought up to now is the sum total of where my business is today, good or bad.
