Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Frederick
Audrey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey of working with women in their homes started as a health coaching business to help women that wanted to improve their relationship with food, teaching their kids to make nutritious food choices, and create a home environment that was conducive to this lifestyle. My business organically evolved into home organizing when I realized that I absolutely loved helping families create a calm and intentional home environment that didn’t necessarily need to revolve around food. I also love the immediate gratification of spending a day with someone and them seeing results immediately in their home. This creates a snowball effect throughout other parts of their home and lives.
The home organizing business was officially born when I realized that friends and family would consistently comment about how relaxing and inviting my home feels when they’d enter. My home is not overly curated and it’s quite small, but what we have in our space is intentional. I’ve always considered myself sensitive to my physical surroundings, but I’ve realized that many women feel overstimulated in their homes. I also know how overwhelming creating organization systems can feel with kids and other responsibilities. I want everyone to have a home environment that feels like a deep exhale when walking through the door. Organization and calm means something different to everyone, and I always want to honor the individual wants and needs of my clients. This work brings me so much joy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I definitely didn’t take a direct route to finding my passion for home organizing. I started my career in the hospitality industry, and landed in the tech startup world of Boulder when we moved to Colorado 10 years ago. I knew tech wasn’t the right path for me, but the through-line has always been how much I love helping clients find a solution to a problem.
I became a mom in 2016 and something in me shifted that I wanted my family to see me doing work that was meaningful to me. It’s taken me years of trial and error to land where I’m at today and I’m so grateful for the journey, even with the struggle. I’ve realized that it’s never too late to follow your dreams. 40 is just around the corner for me and I feel like I have so many ideas and am just getting started!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In short, I’m a home organizer that works with women and families to edit, organize, and elevate their home environments. I’ve worked with many different clients, but I specialize in working with families with children at home. It’s a tender phase in life that is amazing but can also be quite overwhelming. I also love working with families in other life transitions, such as becoming empty-nesters.
I feel most proud when I get messages from clients after leaving their homes about how excited and motivated they feel. I’ll get notes days later after our time together about how our work snowballed into other parts of their life or how good they feel. It’s a wonderful feeling.
One thing that can set me apart from other organizers is my focus on using what we already have in the home to organize the space. And a focus on the environmental impact of excess. It can be tempting to bring in extensive organizing solutions before we’ve even started, but it can cause more clutter and waste (and it can be expensive). Once we remove the excess clutter and come up with organizing systems that will work for the family, you may not actually need to bring in many pieces to elevate your space. But sometimes you’ll want to – and that’s okay too! It’s about intention.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Nurturing relationships is always top of my priority list. Quality time with family is huge, but my husband and I also spend a great deal of time investing in our friendships too. Even with kids and other priorities, planning events and even trips with friends really lights us up. We do an annual camp trip with a huge group of family-friends and love hosting in our backyard in the summer. My husband and I also plan our own trips away from the family to recharge. Now more than ever, in-person connection is so important for wellbeing. By fighting to simplify other areas of my life, it helps to find that free time.
