Today we’d like to introduce you to Baltazar Villanueva
Hi Baltazar, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a single-parent household with three older sisters. My mom worked all the time to support us. I was always interested in martial arts, and we moved to an area where I was bullied. So, she enrolled me in martial arts. I fell in love with it, and it became my first job.
I was a great performance athlete but never understood why I did have the aesthetic look to go with it. I developed body dysmorphia and started overtraining and undereating. I lost about 20 lbs in a month and felt great. I continued on this path, still not understanding why I didn’t look how I wanted to. Long story short, I had to stop training because the place I loved so much became a toxic environment. I lost my girlfriend and hurt my relationships with friends and family.
I did meet my wife while I was recovering from my eating disorder and overtraining. I spent the next 10 years figuring out what I was doing wrong with my training. Listen and follow influencers on what they did and how they did it; none of it will work. Finally, I came across some good information from credible sources and started to see results. I was eating more, building muscle, and feeling a lot better. I decided to get my personal training and nutrition certificate. I opened my business in December of 2022 and started taking clients in July of 2023 when I stopped working for the City and County of Denver.
I want to help those individuals who are going through the same pains I did, not knowing what they are doing wrong, thinking cardio is the best approach, and eating too little is the way to lose weight. I help clients achieve their goals by working out twice to three a week, hitting their step goal, and building their metabolism by eating more whole foods.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Growing a business is challenging, and balancing a company with a family life is hard, too, but it has been working. I have learned the hard way with marketing. What not to spend money on, and what does pay off. Word of mouth and networking have been the best, but I am looking for platforms like this to share my story so clients can find someone who has gone through their struggles and can be successful.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Relentless Spirit has been open for almost two years, taking on clients. On average, clients lose 5 pounds a month without restrictive dieting, not doing excessive cardio, and learning to pick better ingredients while cooking at home. We give you the tools to learn how to prepare meals, and we have programming built to meet you where you are in your fitness journey. We also work with people in person or online.
We can help people improve their mood, energy, digestion, libido, strength, and aesthetic goals. We focus on balancing aesthetics, performance, and longevity. We can also help those with hormone issues, gut health, and weight loss. We carry certifications in personal training, nutrition, sports nutrition, physical enhancement specialist for athletes, correctional exercise, hormone specialist, and gut health.
We are proud that we do not judge clients on where they are in their health journey. We are here to help you achieve your goals at your own pace. We focus on these as our keys to success: show up, do the work, and listen. You will succeed wildly if you follow 90% of what we tell you. 80% will yield results but slightly slower. 70% will have you wondering why we are working together. We take responsibility for our clients’ success but cannot eat, cook, or work out for you. We are your accountability partner on this journey and will provide you with the information, motivation, and structure you need to learn how to do this independently.
First, we speed your metabolism back up while you build muscle and strength in the workouts. Once your metabolism is fired up, you start to see noticeable changes in your appearance and mood. You start to feel clothes fitting you differently, and your self-confidence grows. Body fat starts to come off. The scale may not show it right away, but we focus on other metrics, such as the ones listed above. Photos and measurements are a better approach than watching the scale. One pound of muscle weighs the same as one pound of fat. The density is what changes and what we need to focus on. The weight will come off, but you must stick to the game plan.
Finally, when you have achieved your goal, we teach you how to maintain it independently. This way, you can fire us when satisfied with your results.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am lucky to have a family that supports me in my business. I am often gone before anyone else is up because of early morning training, and I have some evening clients based on work schedules. My job is physically demanding and takes a lot of energy. Injuries do happen, and I have to work through them. I have been lucky enough to find a supportive network that has my back and continues to help me move my business forward.
