Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Walker

Ben, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We originally started Ditto Transcripts as a medical transcription company back in 2008. It was going very well until some things in the medical industry in and around the technology started to evolve and we started losing a lot of our clients. That’s when we started to look into other industries that needed transcription services as well. We used to get calls from law firms and law enforcement agencies asking us to transcribe for them and we had always told them no, because we didn’t have anyone who could accurately transcribe for them at that time. Once we started to research the legal, law enforcement, and academic transcription industries we quickly realized there were other large transcription markets we could work with. When we were awarded the Arkansas State Police transcription services contract back in 2013 that put us on the map and off we went. We now work with over 100 law enforcement agencies all over the US and around 300 law firms scattered around the US. The process was probably not natural, we did survive though and have diversified enough to withstand the ups and downs that happen in the business world when you least expect it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Ha, I wish it had been smooth and easy sometimes. We were at one time very top heavy with a few clients and when one left us it hurt the bottom line a lot. There were the times I didn’t know some of my employees didn’t get along and it affected our customer service to the point that a few clients left us. We also had some untimely resignations that almost cost us some clients, because we had a tough time keeping up with all the work until we were able to hire some new employees. It’s those situations you can’t predict will happen that really test your ability to manage well under a lot of stress.

As you know, we’re big fans of Ditto Transcripts. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Ditto Transcripts is a full service premium transcription services company. We specialize in legal, law enforcement, academic, medical, financial, and general transcription services. We have dedicated teams and account managers for each, so they know their industries inside and out. We don’t let just anyone transcribe for our medical clients as an example. They have to pass our medical transcription tests with at least a 95% and have at least 5 years of experience. The same goes for our law enforcement transcription work. We can’t let just anyone transcribe for those clients. Because we are CJIS compliant we first have to run criminal background checks on them, test them to make sure they are the best at what they do, and then slowly integrate them into our workflow after a probationary period where every report they transcribe is thoroughly checked for any mistakes. I am most proud brand wise that we have the best customer service in our industry. We have been told dozens of times over the years that our customer service is the best they have ever had from a transcription company, and sometimes with all of their vendors combined.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
That’s a very good question. The biggest corporations in world are training their AI systems with millions and millions of lines of transcripts and audio files as we speak. If they are finally able to crack the 92% accuracy threshold we will then be able to edit an AI produced transcript as quickly as we can transcribe it from scratch now, so that would be a huge game changer for our industry. If that does happen I actually think we will grow even more because we will be able to lower our pricing by a lot and then more people will be able to afford our services.
