Meet Brandon Hunton of Wash Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Hunton

Hi Brandon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
CHEER Colorado was founded in 2017 by Lindsay Miller and Janine Mandel. We are a charitable cheerleading team and 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Out Mission is to show up for, positively impact, and further strengthen the LGBTQIA+ community in Colorado. We are currently in our 8th season and over the past 7 seasons, we have raised and donated more than $146,000 dollars. Our Vision is a world in which all people are—and feel—safe, seen, and celebrated as their full, authentic selves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road! Because we exist to serve the LGBTQIA+ community in Colorado, our beneficiaries are constantly in a battle for their human rights, safety, and existence. Their struggles are CHEER Colorado’s struggles. In addition to the ongoing struggles that the LGBTQIA+ community faces, we have faced other struggles along the way like finding affordable gym space to practice in that is centrally located for all of our volunteers.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Engineering Manager. I have worked for an engineering sales company for almost 11 years. I’ve been a manager for 6 of those 11 years and I absolutely love it. I feel most proud when I am coaching and development my team members towards the next step in their careers. I am passionate about people and helping my team thrive and succeed in their work. I’m empathetic and patient, especially when delivering difficult messages and addresses performance issues. I believe my passion for management and people is what makes me a successful Executive Director for CHEER Colorado.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I recently joined a book club because I want to read more. We are currently reading Under the Whispering Door. Podcasts that I enjoy listening to include 1A, Criminal, Science VS, and Serial.
