Meet Brandy Cordova-Zimmerman of Colorado Acupuncture and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Cordova-Zimmerman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my journey with acupuncture at the age of 19. I was diagnosed with Grave’s disease, and was advised to take medical measures to kill off my thyroid and start synthetic hormones. I could not fathom medication for the rest of my life, especially at the age of 19! I mentioned what was going on to a co-worker, who then suggested I try acupuncture. She gave me the number of her acupuncturist, and I made a phone call. Fast forward quite a few years; to where I was waiting for my next acupuncture appointment and I saw a handout for prospective acupuncture students at the Institute of Taoist Education and Acupuncture (ITEA). A few years after that incident, I was sitting in my first acupuncture course at ITEA. By 2013 I earned my Master of Acupuncture in Classical Five Element Acupuncture. Life happened; marriage, children, the Covid pandemic hit, and eventually in 2021 I became nationally certified by the NCCAOM (they just had a name change to NCBAHM). I then hit the streets looking for an office space near my home and children’s school, but that turned out to be a challenge on its own. I perform a LOT of moxibustion (the burning of mugwort on acupuncture points or over specific areas of the body) in my clinic, so I need windows that open to vent out the smoke. No one wanted smoke in their building, or did not have adequate ventilation. Then one day in late August 2022, I found an office with windows AND in the area I was hoping for. I have been in the same building since, but have upgraded to a larger space with a waiting room.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would love to say life is smooth, but here in Colorado, there seems to be a pothole somewhere! And the same would go for the road to get where I am now with my business. Besides life detouring me with how long it took to get licensed and find an office, I would say my only other struggles have been the typical balancing act of personal life and business life, and the day to day of running a business as a one-woman show!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I practice Classical Five Element Acupuncture, as compiled by J.R. Worsley. This style of acupuncture is rooted in Taoist tradition. It sees each person as a unique individual, addressing imbalances in body, mind, and spirit. By working with the five elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—this powerful system aligns with Nature, allowing you to heal, restore balance, and reconnect with your true self. As I learn new modalities or treatment options, I pass that knowledge along to my patients with added benefits to their current treatments, or as extra options to choose from. As of now I offer acupuncture (which includes moxibustion and ear seeds), cupping, gua sha, microneedling and nanoneedling, Bach Flower remedies, and I offer Community Acupuncture (with puzzles!) twice weekly. My focus has been on women’s health, pain management, digestive issues, stress and anxiety.

My pricing is based on fair and accessible rates, ensuring that my patients receive high-quality care without a financial barrier in their way. To me, your well-being is invaluable, and it should not cost you a fortune, and I believe holistic healing should be within reach for everyone, not just those with a higher income. I also offer packages to make treatments even more sustainable. I also offer discounts to active military, U.S. Veterans, people ages 65 and up, as well as children 12 and younger.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
People are looking at their health and well-being differently, and more are seeking out alternative and holistic ways for it. With that being said, I feel that acupuncture will continue to grow in popularity and more will be seeking it out.
