Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Watson.
Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always knew I wanted to dive into something creative, but it wasn’t until college that I realized fashion was the direction for me. I started with an undeclared major, taking a bunch of elective courses to find my passion. Fashion 101 was one of those electives, and I fell in love instantly!
From college to now, I’ve worked various jobs where I was always helping others build their dreams, but I had this burning desire to take a leap and become my own boss. It didn’t happen overnight, but I knew I wanted to create something unique on my own.
I chose to open a boutique because I’ve always wanted to make clothes to sell, like physically designing, sewing, and creating garments. But I knew starting out would be incredibly tough, especially on my own. So, the boutique became the perfect way to merge my own fashion designs with other brands I love. I wanted to curate a collection that reflected my personal style: Cute and comfortable!
I feel most productive, confident, and genuinely happy when I love my outfit, but even more so when it’s comfortable! That’s the style of The Hyve Boutique. The Hyve is just about a month old, having launched on May 21. The brand is still growing, adapting, and changing, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In life, I feel like nothing ever goes as smoothly as you’d like it to! I’ve been lucky that the challenges I’ve faced so far have been relatively minor, but since this business is just starting out, I’m sure more obstacles will come along the way.
Ordering online is tough (for my wholesale buying and for my online boutique shoppers) because you never know what you will receive until it arrives. I wanted everything to feel high-quality and ethically sourced, but that also comes with financial risk that will hopefully pay off.
Building brand awareness is a struggle on its own. Starting from scratch means there is no existing customer base to fall back on, which can be challenging. I’m working hard to earn trust with my audience and get The Hyve Boutique out into the world. I’m so committed to growing, and it’s been an exciting learning curve for me to try out different strategies!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At The Hyve Boutique, we’re all about comfort and style that fits seamlessly into everyday life. Whether you’re lounging at home, running errands, or stepping out for a night on the town, feeling comfortable shouldn’t mean sacrificing style. Our goal is to help you feel confident and cute, no matter what you’re up to!
I love featuring limited edition items because they add that special touch of exclusivity. It’s important to me that our customers feel unique and not like they’re wearing the same thing everyone else has. I’m a big advocate for individuality. I want to encourage mixing and matching pieces to express personal style.
With that being said, The Hyve offers versatile pieces that can be worn in multiple ways, making it easy to create different looks with items you already own. Sustainability is important, especially in the fashion industry, which is why we’re excited to offer items that are both stylish and mindful of reducing waste.
Currently, we’re shipping across the US, with plans to expand internationally down the road. The Hyve Boutique is more than just a place to shop – for me, it’s a community where comfort, style, and love come together!
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is from around 2010 when I attended my first music festival, the Mile High Music Festival in Denver. Even though I was just in elementary school, it was an exhilarating experience. Unfortunately, the festival isn’t around anymore, but I remember being completely mesmerized by the blend of music and fashion. It was incredible to see how people used the event as a canvas for their creative outfits. While some details have faded, I vividly remember the festival energy, the fashion, and some of the headliners haha! Now as an adult, I still love festivals for the same reasons, a blend of music and the chance to play dress-up, experimenting with fashion!
