Today we’d like to introduce you to Capture This
Hi Capture This, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The Formation of Capture This: From Craigslist to the Stage
In the vibrant world of pop-punk, some of the best stories are born from chance encounters and bold ideas. For Capture This, the story of how they came together is one of serendipity and determination, with a little help from Craigslist.
Leah, the determined lead singer and heart of the band, had always dreamed of starting a band that would channel the raw, emotional energy of pop-punk. But like many musicians, finding the right group of people to bring that vision to life proved to be more challenging than expected. Instead of waiting for the perfect bandmates to come along, Leah took matters into her own hands—literally.
She put up an ad on Craigslist, seeking like-minded musicians who were passionate about the genre and ready to hit the ground running. Little did she know, this simple ad would lay the foundation for something much bigger than she could have ever imagined.
Enter Andrew, a guitarist with a passion for heavy riffs and catchy melodies. After seeing Leah’s ad, he reached out, intrigued by the idea of joining a new project. They arranged their first audition, and within minutes of playing together, their music chemistry was undeniable. Andrew was in.
But Leah wasn’t finished yet. A true band needed more than just a great guitarist—it needed the full lineup to bring their sound to life. Alex, the drummer found Leah’s Craigslist ad and reached out. Alex came on board and was immediately welcomed into the fold.
Next up was the bassist. Zach, the bassist responded to the Craigslist ad. Zach was eager for a new challenge, and after a successful audition, he became the final piece of the puzzle.
The chemistry between Leah, Andrew, Alex, and Zach was electric. They quickly got to work, honing their sound and creating music that spoke to the highs and lows of youth, rebellion, and self-discovery—perfectly capturing the energy of 2000’s pop-punk while making it their own. Their sound was fresh, but familiar, with an infectious energy that drew people in.
Their first big breakthrough came in late 2024 when they released “Halothane Dreams.” The song quickly became a fan favorite. Their rise to prominence culminated in a victory at KTCL Channel 93.3’s Hometown for the Holidays competition, cementing Capture This as one of Colorado’s top new alternative bands. It was a victory that made them not only a local sensation but also a band with the potential to make waves beyond their home state.
From Craigslist to the stage, Capture This is proof that sometimes the best things happen when you take a leap of faith. What started as a simple ad looking for bandmates turned into a powerhouse act with a devoted fanbase, high-energy performances, and a message that resonates with people across the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall they’ve had bumps in the road but they’ve all been lessons they’ve looked back and been grateful for. They wouldn’t change it any other way because they now know what not to do and what worked.
One of those decisions was driving from Colorado to California for just one show. At the time, it seemed like a no-brainer—an opportunity to build relationships with promoters and connect with new bands that could open doors. But in hindsight, the money spent on gas, food could have been better used for marketing or recording new music. Even though money was poured down the drain, spending 20+ hours in a car together was an experience they wouldn’t trade for anything.
Between the laughs at midnight and funny memes on TikTok, the memories they formed are what shaped who they are today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Capture This is a pop-punk band that brings back the 2000’s nostalgia punk feeling. If they can play a show and take people back to the summer days at Warped Tour or a My Chemical Romance concert moshing in the pits, that’s a win in their book.
Last year was the year they were most proud of because they got to open up for some of their favorite music influences, play local festivals and connect with people all over the online world. Some of those artists were the Plain White T’s and The Spill Canvas.
It was a surreal moment when they released the Halothane Dreams official music video on YouTube and people were finding their song from all parts of the world. The goal of connecting with fans all over the world didn’t even feel possible because of feeling stagnant as a band the past few years.
The band is undoubtedly a strong advocate for women empowerment in the music scene. Summer of 2023, they organized Female Fronted Fest in Colorado. The event showcased female creatives, entrepreneurs and organizations. The collaborations fostered a sense of community support and unwavering success.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For Capture This, success isn’t just about record sales or chart-topping hits. It’s about creating authentic connections with their fans, staying true to their roots, and making a lasting impact on the scene. Whether it’s winning competitions like KTCL’s Hometown for the Holidays or organizing events like Female Fronted Fest, success to them is about building a community, lifting up other creatives, and using their platform to make a difference. While industry recognition and accolades are rewarding, the real measure of success is knowing they’ve made something meaningful that speaks to the hearts of those who listen to their music.
