Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Vasquez.
Hi Chad, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been involved with music pretty much all my life in one form or another. It was around high school between 2005-2009 that electronic music started to become something I really enjoyed above all genres of music. Back then, everyone just called what is broadly known as “EDM” today “Techno” music. I really wanted to dive deep into understanding how music worked, the theory behind invoking certain emotions using music. In grade school, I had participated in band so heading into college at Ohio University, I studied music theory pretty extensively and got a minor in music. EDM had really only just started to become more mainstream while is was in college and I attended my first show with DJs as the main acts in 2010. As a performer, once I saw and felt the energy from being a part of a crowd like that, I imagined what it would feel like to be up there on a stage playing music I love to a crowd that would appreciate it. For the first time, I really felt like I could be honest about the music I was super into with others who “got it” so to speak. I decided to learn how to DJ that week after the show, but I knew it wouldn’t be enough to just get up there and play music that other people were making, I needed to be able to make my own music. So, my music production journey formally began in 2011. Playing in the basements of crowded college bars, I got my first taste of what being a DJ/Music Producer was really like. What it felt like to hear my music playing out over speakers, and seeing how it impacted others on a dance floor. I was hooked!
Fast Forward to today, I’ve kept my dream of being a national performing act alive. Opening for major artists such as Dillon Francis, Lane 8, San Holo, Marsh & Nox Vahn, and signing music to over 11 reputable record labels in the music industry, my dream is slowly materializing into reality. Launching my career in Ohio, to building a brand in Los Angeles, and with a move to Denver in April of 2021, I’ve been able to cultivate meaningful relationships here that are propelling things forward! The rest as they say, is history.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has definitely been bumpy. I actually quit Djing for a time from 2017 to 2019 to focus on other priorities in life. When I moved to LA, it was tough to keep up with the passion of making music and working full time in that environment. The music industry is harsh, and it can swallow you up and spit you out if you let it. COVID, for all the horrible things it’s done in so many ways, left me with a lot of time to really focus on what I wanted out of a music career and really hone my skills with all the free time I now had. The important thing is to just remember to stay true to your art and creativity. It’s easy to compare your journey to others, but it’s not always about the final result. The process is the most important part.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize as a DJ/Music Producer in the Deep House/Progressive House areas of EDM. I’m known for having a sound that is unique but recognizable. I fun-loving DJ who likes to have a good time with the crowds and provide a lot of fun and “good vibes” for people to enjoy.
I think the thing I most proud of isn’t any single achievement, but just keeping up with my passion and not actually giving up. There are so many people out there that are trying to “make it” and be the next big thing that it can be overwhelming.
One thing that sets me apart from others is I try my best to help others out as much as humanly possible. There’s nothing that makes me feel better than helping others achieve goals. Whether that’s helping them learn how to make music, how to DJ, how to change the oil in their car, or whatever, being a good person and offering help when you can will never go out of style.
What matters most to you?
Connecting others through music. Music is such an integral part of our lives and most of the time we don’t really even think about it. My generation has grown up with a lot of this type of music, ‘dance’ music so to speak and it’s been a way to express ourselves without judgment. ‘Raves’ were for the nerdy kids that felt left out in traditional social circles. Other people at these events connect due to the fact that you can understand them simply based on their connection to the music involved. If I can play a part in those connections with my music, that is what matters to me. It’s not fame, or money, or even notoriety. It’s simply connecting others.
