Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Gonzales.
Hi Chris, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
In my early 20s, I was doing everything “right.”
I was fitter, stronger, and healthier than ever, until one day, seemingly out of nowhere I was bedridden with extreme back pain. I saw every specialist you can imagine, and while they got me out of bed, which I’m eternally grateful for, I still could not walk, sit, or stand for more than 30 minutes without being in pain. That of course also meant my athletics scratched to a halt as well.
The worst part was one “expert” even had the nerve to say “Well you know you’re getting older now…”. I’d had enough of the traditional approach, so I set out on a journey to fix myself instead.
I researched how disciplines like traditional martial arts, yoga, powerlifting, parkour, etc. view the body. Then, I traveled the country and studied under chiropractors, doctors, and physical therapists who are taking the current scientific literature and applying it to the body, instead of the 20-30-year-old approaches that many still use.
By merging the movement, exercise, and soft tissue approaches I learned through my self study, I finally got better. And by better I don’t just mean out of pain, but I began to perform better than ever as well!
The root issue was a fundamental breakdown in the way that I moved, and by learning to examine the body from so many different lenses I began to see these breakdowns in people all around me.
Fast forward to today and I have been helping outdoor enthusiasts correct these hidden movement pattern breakdowns for over a decade so they keep doing what they love. By merging specialized manual therapy and targeted bodyweight exercises, my clients are feeling better and performing better, just like me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At The Movement Training Company, I do just that; train people how to move their bodies the way they were biologically designed to move, with the ultimate goal of preparing themselves to adventure forever! I do this through a mixture of specialized manual therapy techniques, and bodyweight exercises designed to reprogram the muscles and joints to function optimally.
As a Licensed Massage Therapist and Functional Movement Specialist, I took an a-la-carte approach to my education studying under experts in various fields, which means I’m able to see the body from many different perspectives without being pigeonholed into one approach. I always tell my clients that, metaphorically, some problems need a wrench, some need a hammer, and because of my unique background, I’m able to assess from various perspectives to find what tool works best for the body in front of me.
With the incredible results my clients have seen over the years, especially with the movement re-education exercises, I have been able to translate much of what I do in-person to Online Programs, and Hybrid Virtual Programs that help people take control of their bodies again, no matter where they live. I also offer intensives for those looking to see me in person in Woodland Park.
Ultimately, I do what I do because I know what it is like to be an active individual, and then have that taken away by pain. My mission is to help people move from pain to performance, or prevent pain in the first place so we can all enjoy being active, and adventure forever!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Bad luck started my career. I was born with scoliosis, which went undiagnosed until the day I was bedridden by back pain. The journey to fix myself is what lead me to discover the fundamental movement pattern breakdowns that we have as modern humans, and the accompanying solutions to help people feel and function better.
