Today we’d like to introduce you to Dajour Mcgaughy.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started making music at eight years old after my uncle was killed, and I haven’t stopped ever since. Two years after graduating high school, I was presented with an opportunity to open my studio and three other individuals. It made me decide to pick up a camera because many clients that came through there needed visuals for their music. I’ve been working with a camera for 6-7 years. My talents and business ventures have put me in places I could only dream of. Today the journey continues. I’ve been booked all across the city for significant events, even shows, clubs, etc. I do photography as well and have been getting booked nonstop. My career is on an incline, but I have a long way to go. I think I’ve got what it takes to complete the bigger picture of all of this.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, not at all a smooth road. My biggest struggle was balancing. Learning to balance out your regular lifestyle with this kind of lifestyle is not easy. Between the two, there are a lot of sacrifices you have to make to make it all work. Another struggle is not to let things get to your head. Good or bad. You can’t let the good things get to your head because it might feed your ego too much and turn you into somebody people will either love or hate, no in-between. Business is more accessible when you’re likable people love working with you, and they will always come back. I would never want to treat someone differently because I’ve gained a certain status or have a specific wave. You don’t want the wrong things to get to you because it can discourage you in many ways. You might get down on yourself and want to give up because things aren’t going your way or you’re not where you want to be. As part of the process, good or bad, it’s all used to fuel the fire to keep going and keep growing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a: Music Artist
Engineer
Photographer
Videographer
I can’t choose which one I’m most proud of because they’re a part of completing the bigger picture. Creatively one helps me with another, and they’re all a role in what I genuinely want to do (Music). What sets me apart is my personality, drive, and work ethic. Also, with my being able to do all these things, it gives me the ability to communicate with each position to bring what’s exactly in my head to life, and my talent for every one of those things is growing. They’re all done at a high professional level.
What do you think about happiness?
The freedom you get from being creative is like no other. Something about bringing ideas and creations to life makes me happiest, and seeing how people take in your creation, whether a good or bad reaction, is exciting. Nothing makes me more comfortable than creating, especially creating music.
