Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Herman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
With a background in project management at software technology companies, Daniel’s passion for swimming and drowning prevention led him to British Swim School, the premiere learn-to-swim provider for more than 40 years. What resonated deeply with him was the commitment to teaching water safety and survival skills to all, from children as young as three months old to adults.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most small businesses, the road hasn’t always been smooth — but the challenges have helped shape who we are today. Launching British Swim School of South Metro Denver meant introducing a new approach to swim instruction in a community that didn’t yet know us. Early on, one of our biggest hurdles was building awareness and earning trust from families who already had other swim options.
Staffing was another challenge, especially finding and training instructors who share our passion for water safety and our commitment to making every child feel safe and confident in the water. The hiring environment has changed a lot since we started, so we’ve had to get creative in how we recruit, train, and retain great team members.
We also faced our share of logistical struggles — scheduling around busy family lives, navigating pool availability, and keeping operations running smoothly during seasonal fluctuations like holidays or school breaks.
But every obstacle taught us something. The community’s response and the smiles we see when a student swims independently for the first time make it all worth it. We’ve learned that growth rarely happens on a perfectly smooth road — and that persistence, teamwork, and passion for our mission keep us moving forward.
As you know, we’re big fans of British Swim School of South Metro Denver. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At British Swim School of South Metro Denver, our mission is simple but powerful — to ensure that every person, regardless of age or ability, has the skills and confidence to survive and thrive in the water. We teach water safety and swimming lessons to children and adults of all ages, starting as young as three months old.
What truly sets us apart is our gentle, survival-first approach. Before we ever focus on competitive strokes, we teach critical safety skills — like how to float on your back, roll over to breathe, and reach safety if you fall into the water. Our curriculum is structured, consistent, and proven to work, but what families love most is the caring, personalized instruction their children receive. Every class is designed to be fun, safe, and confidence-building.
We’re especially proud to be part of a brand with over 40 years of experience and a mission that saves lives every day. Locally, our team is known for creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where each student is celebrated for their progress — no matter how small. We take pride in getting to know our families, supporting our instructors’ growth, and being a trusted partner in the community when it comes to water safety education.
Our goal isn’t just to teach swim lessons — it’s to build safer swimmers, stronger families, and a lifelong love of the water.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We’d just like to remind families that water safety isn’t seasonal — it’s a skill that lasts a lifetime. Drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death for young children, and even basic swim and safety skills can make all the difference.
At British Swim School of South Metro Denver, we believe every child deserves the chance to feel safe and confident around water. Whether your little one is just starting out or already loves to splash, we’re here to help them learn in a fun, gentle, and encouraging environment.
We also encourage parents to take the plunge, too — it’s never too late to learn how to swim!
Most of all, we’re grateful for the incredible families and communities who continue to support our mission. Together, we’re making Denver a safer place, one swimmer at a time.
