Meet Daniel Lopez of Inspire Osteopathy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Lopez.

Daniel Lopez

Hi Daniel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up with a lot of pain. I was often twisting in my chair struggling to get the gratifying “pops” in my spine. There was pain over my tailbone, lower back, upper back, and neck. I was constantly on the lookout for corners of things sticking out at just the right height that I could try to dig my back into.

Honestly, none of those things felt as good as I imagined it in my mind. Seeking relief from this constant, nagging pain inspired me to become a hands-on osteopathic physician or D.O. specializing in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT).

When I learned that there were doctors who were working with their hands, I felt like that’s where my answers would lie. I went to osteopathic medical school, did a residency, and became board-certified. I went on a lifelong journey to understand how to find real long-lasting relief and help others do the same when possible.

The solutions that worked often required a very different approach to what most people do to find relief on a day-to-day basis. I learned about the interconnectedness of the body, what it communicates with pain and tension, and how to help the body resolve pain when possible. Part of that journey has taken me into the world of tongue ties, craniofacial development, airway, and much more.

Today, I no longer feel like I need to “pop” my back and don’t have pain on a day-to-day basis while I continue to learn from my patients. My wife, Dr. Sarah Curtis, who is in the same specialty, and I started Inspire Osteopathy Denver nearly two years ago to help patients from newborns to the elderly find relief by applying what we have learned as hands-on osteopathic physicians.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the world of our osteopathic specialty, we run into many challenges. First, most of the public does not even know we exist so they don’t know to look for us. Even then, there can be a lot of misunderstanding where people think that our treatments are not much different compared to a chiropractor, craniosacral therapist, or any other bodyworker.

It’s not just the public that misunderstands us, but many doctors, whether M.D.s or D.O.s, do too. We run into the obstacles of finding trusted healthcare professionals who value what we do and are willing to send us patients. In our previous practice, we found that health insurance was reimbursing less and less for our specialty.

Based on recent trends, when we opened Inspire Osteopathy Denver, we decided we had to try to succeed without accepting insurance. Although we have been successful so far, we have had plenty of ups and downs in our practice, but we have been grateful to all who have come our way.

As you know, we’re big fans of Inspire Osteopathy Denver. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Inspire Osteopathy Denver opened in May of 2021 offering hands-on osteopathic treatment to the greater Denver area. The practice consists of a husband and wife team of doctors (and their mini Goldendoodle, Jude), whom many healthcare providers trust as the go-to providers for many pain and health-related issues.

Not all osteopathic manipulative treatment is the same and we feel like we are the ones to come to if you want the best outcomes. Because osteopathic philosophy includes understanding the interconnectedness of the body, we are experts on a whole range of issues from the bottoms of the feet to the top of the head.

Our comprehensive hands-on treatments are effective and different than what others do. We have expertise from newborns to the elderly. When you come to us, we are not looking to keep you coming back over and over endlessly. When possible, we aim to provide you with a resolution to your problem or problems as quickly as possible so you can move on with your life.

Sometimes, patients continue coming because they love how much better they feel and want to know how far they can take that. We love to hear about the positive impact our treatments have had on our patients and their families. We are grateful for their referrals because it shows how much they trust and value our care.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up a swimmer and my favorite memories come from the friendships and bonds forged through the sport. I grew up in the Denver area and swam for Regis High School. My favorite memory was winning state championships and even a national championship title in my senior year.
