Meet Daniel Mason of ClearSky Payments

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Mason.

Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in the merchant services/payment processing space in 2016, after being a consumer of merchant services for 11 years as co-owner of a wholesale fine jewelry company. And, like most people do, I began as a naive independent sales agent working for a single payment processing company. It didn’t take long before I saw the need to separate myself from the crowd, differentiate from the processing company, and do my own thing because the company I was representing was not well known, and most payment processing companies have poor reputations. Thus, I created ClearSky Payments in 2017 and we began our broker model by seeking out and contracting with some of the best merchant service providers, POS companies, and processors in the world. Fast forward 10 years, and our unique broker model now stands out with hundreds of businesses/clients (retailers, wholesaler, restaurants, mobile and service-oriented companies, e-commerce businesses, etc.) not only concentrated in the greater Denver area, but throughout Colorado and spanning 22 states nationwide.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, it’s been relatively smooth, but there are always challenges when building a business from the ground up. As mentioned, credit card processing has such a poor reputation for bad service, and it can even be said to be widely notorious for scams, high rates, and hidden fees. This has created certain struggles and obstacles as we’ve grown, having to prove ourselves to be different from a past negative experience or from what someone else is trying to sell them. And although this external challenge remains, the hurdles have significantly diminished, and this dynamic often works in our favor, now that we’ve built a strong foundation and have proved ourselves to be highly reputable – not only in the Denver community, but nationally as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We provide credit/debit card processing accounts (known as merchant accounts) to virtually any business in the United States that wants to accept credit/debit card (and ACH) payments. This includes point-of-sale (POS) systems – both the hardware and software – needed to accept these digital payments, whether in person, online, or on the go. We assist our clients from start to finish, and service the account for life.
