Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Orth.
Hi Daniel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My journey has been one from the depths of terrifying, black hell PTSD to the luminous rainbow bridge of transcendence and it feels like just the beginning…
I’ve been on a holistic healing path since about age 18 when I took up yoga and meditation 23 years ago. I’ve been on a snake-like path of healing CPTSD ever since… And I’m still on it.
Arriving literally by accident in Boulder, CO in 2006, things began percolate… And, negativity along with egoic arrogance brought in the healing crisis… over and over and over and over and let’s just say to the nth power. That means I’ve had exponential opportunities to humble myself, be vulnerable, soften my heart and Be Present with myself and others. The opportunities continue. And continue. And continue. AND sometimes finally change a pattern “yay!”
I think about 2007 I began studying the Shamanic Arts from a wonderfully brilliant teacher. I learned and experienced such powerful ways that I use several aspects of it every day, and always when I give bodywork sessions. Soon after I learned about chakras, energy fields, grounding energy, and harmonizing the aura through another Boulder school.
I always Loved to provide bodywork long before I thought of doing it professionally. My Mom had severe asthma when I was a child and I had to help calm her since she had dangerous attacks. As I grew, I enjoyed massaging loved ones a little bit. I had a knack for it, people felt my love emanating from my hands and heart. In 2009, my girlfriend of the time got everything together that I’d need to do to get into massage school at Boulder College of Massage Therapy in time for the next semester. I procrastinated as long as possible… And made it in! It was a highly transformative and supportive school in which I had huge growth. They focused a lot on us as humans in addition to the training. I graduated with Honors because I loved it so much!
Amazingly, I was hired right out of school by a renown Boulder chiropractor who worked on a lot of pro athletes, active people, and those with chronic issues from overuse or injuries. He is highly effective! With his tutelage (he is also a bodyworker in addition to chiro) I learned a lot about how to create positive change in the body. He and his family embraced me and we worked together a solid 8 years. The support they gave me means so much.
Since then, I’ve worked on many wonderful people, have gotten access to beautifully deep healing events, and been a part of epic experiences that I have no words for.
I worked at the Arise Music Festival backstage providing Bodywork every year since its first. It was my favorite thing to do every year, doing deep transcendental work that supported the performers, staff, VIPs in moving through their blockages and allowing their authentic selves to emerge! The effect we had could be felt throughout the whole festival as it would spread. It was Epic!!!
The work I do now is centered around helping clients moved through areas of resistance within themselves. This year I’ve had about 10 Olympic clients, including a gold medalist and a silver medalist. Some clients needed mostly physical work. Some needed to move through emotional blockages in addition. Some needed to see themselves as perfect as they are. I tend to provide sessions in which clients may move through their old, or new, areas of “stuckness”. One of my favorite things is when they express themselves fully with no filter and let something go. That’s the direction my work is going. I increasingly want to work with clients who are ready to face the experiences locked inside and express them out of the body through the voice and the movement of the body. Lately, clients have been willing to go there with me more often. As I do these things for myself in my own space, clients seem to naturally do it more in session.
I’ve learned the transformation of my programming only goes as far as I go deep into it… Into the feelings, the parts of myself that wish to be heard, experienced, expressed! I’ve learned if I don’t do that consciously, what’s inside will surely come out unconsciously… And usually to my detriment. So, I yell, scream, roar, holler chant, cry, whimper, sob, and howl from the core of me and Let It Out! As I train to facilitate Holotropic Breathwork, I practice this more often therefore I can tell you it’s perhaps the most effective way to move through and transcend dense emotions and energies that are stuck within. The resonance of the voice brings it up while being experienced and moves the energy outward.
I also use tools and ways during my sessions that I learned from the Shamanic Arts Program 13 years ago. Sometimes the energy gets moving through visions of animals, bubbling whales, howling wolves, rattling rattlesnake, or I see what energy is arising within a client and the symbolic nature of it. It can help the client to, see it, embody and play with this new energy.
I studied zen shiatsu in school and use some of the meridians to clear the pathways. It’s also useful to see what emotion is being resisted and support its flow.
I do whatever it takes to get out of my own way and be of divine service. That means whatever I’m going through, I go through it for the sake of us All. I Love It!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My challenges have revolved around believing in myself, having confidence socially (or even being serviceable socially lol), and having self-respecting boundaries. I’m a giver and I have had to learn to give to myself. I have had anger issues that I still haven’t fully cleared due to an intense childhood full of terror, emotional abuse, being stifled and alone a lot. I’d need to write a book to describe the nightmare I experienced my childhood to be and I know not everyone can handle hearing about it so let’s just say I’m incredibly blessed to be here. Honestly, my life is a miracle and it only gets better All The Time. The struggle was to express myself authentically and Boldly through my body, voice, my Being. It was to see myself as belonging in this world. It was owning the right to exist. Again, I’d need to write that book… I’ve been in survival mode and hyper-vigilant almost every day, especially socially or out and about, since I was 6. I’m started to shift all that after decades of grueling self-growth and healing. I’ve been my own worst enemy and now I’m becoming my best friend. It’s been a Sprint marathon and So Worth It!
We’ve been impressed with Sacred Space Therapeutic Massage, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I Love to hold the container of Sacred Space in which clients have the opportunity to allow Space to be created in the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual (or energetic) bodies.
I love to help people to free themselves from old programming that is not authentic to them by moving through the emotional resistances. Sometimes I use sounds to assist with the this. I use specific playlists, instruments, and my voice at times.
I use Shamanic Arts, Energy work, Myo-fascial Release, Zen Shiatsu, Breathwork, Emotional, Reflexology, Deep Tissue, and much more.
I currently do both house visits and have an office 15-20 mins NW of Boulder.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Sincerity, Caring, Transparency, Love, Authenticity, Willingness to be vulnerable, showing up fully, Being present, Pure Intentions, Courageousness, Strength, Humble, Vessel for Spirit
