Today we’d like to introduce you to Danni Simon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started dancing at the age of seven years old. My sister inspired me to take my first dance class, and from that day on, I fell in love with dance. Dance has become my number one interest and passion in life! I grew up dancing at various studios but eventually landed at my home studio called Streetside Studios in Boulder, CO. Like many kids, I trained in lots of styles growing up (contemporary, jazz, salsa, African, hip hop – breaking, popping, locking, house, etc.). Hip hop was the one that really stuck with me and coincidently, the one that I excelled at the most! In 2009, I ventured off to join my high school poms team. Very different for me but looking back, it was the change I needed. Soon after, I joined a dance crew in Denver called Academy of Raw, which brought me into the Denver dance scene!
Of course, during that time, I found my way back to Streetside and later decided to dedicate my time and skills in hopes of becoming a professional dance teacher and choreographer one day! Years later, around the age of 20, those dreams became true!! I am teaching and choreographing for multiple studios and schools across Colorado, educating, inspiring, and sharing my love for dance. I am also being hired for commercials, music videos, corporate events, and much more! I am extremely lucky to have made dance my career… and might I say it’s not always easy, but it’s everything I’d hoped it would be and more! I have much to be proud of when it comes to how hard I’ve worked and the amazing things I’ve been blessed to do. Some of my favorite moments are dancing for DaBaby, The Chainsmokers, Evan Giia and Kayla Rae! My ongoing goal is to stay booked and blessed, doing what I love fully! No side jobs, just dance!! And just watch… I’m gonna make it happen!!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey definitely had some rough spots! Back injuries, creative blocks, moments where I felt beat down, lack of opportunities and financial struggles. Not only did those things make me stronger but they also fueled my drive to work harder.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a unique dancer and choreographer! What sets me apart from others is the diversity in my movement! I am trained in all styles of hip hop from the best hip hop dance educators in CO! I have applied that knowledge to build a style of my own! No one else is like me!
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I have learned to create opportunities on my own and for myself! I learned that I can’t always let others be the reason why I do what I do. I have to be determined and ambitious all by myself!
