Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Marden.
Hi Debbie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In the midst of a successful career in interior design, I found myself craving a new kind of creative spark—one rooted in the raw, electric energy of live music. Intrigued by the idea of bringing that joy to a crowd, I picked up the bass guitar mid-life and set my sights on the music of my favorite decade: 90s Alternative Rock. I surrounded myself with exceptionally talented bandmates to form The Pogs, and almost overnight, we hit the ground running with a whirlwind of shows across the Denver area.
Standing on stage today, I channel the free-spirited energy of my younger days dancing in the front row right back into the audience. While our collective talent ignites the stage, there’s nothing quite like feeling that thumping bassline kick in and knowing I’m helping bring the party to a room full of people who love this music as much as I do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Learning to play an instrument was only half the battle; I also had to master the business side of running a band from scratch. Thankfully, incredible mentors stepped in—from instructors at the School of Rock to leaders of my favorite local bands. Most notably, my husband jumped right in as our biggest supporter, even learning to manage the soundboard at our shows. Supported by an incredible community, this journey has proven that it’s never too late to learn a new skill or dream a new dream—and I’m constantly pushing forward with excitement for what’s next.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always deeply drawn to music and the people who made it—it’s no coincidence all my boyfriends were musicians. I was captivated by their fun-loving, rebellious spirit and the raw energy they brought to the stage. There was nothing like standing in a crowd, soaked in the sound of a live band, feeling completely alive and energized. Being surrounded by that electric, shared energy was a world I knew I naturally wanted to spend as much time in as possible.
