Hi Dejerae, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Honestly, my story is pretty simple. I’ve spent my whole career taking messy situations and making them run.
I was in real estate for 12 years, mostly at Compass and LIV Sotheby’s. But the thing I was actually good at wasn’t selling houses, it was building the structure behind the people who were. I’ve run a few of my own businesses too, and it was always the same story. People kept pulling me in to clean up the chaos and build the system underneath them.
NVZN really came out of a career change. I’d hit a point where I felt unfulfilled in my own business, and I had to sit with the honest question of what I’m actually good at and what I genuinely enjoy. The answer kind of surprised me. Most people are scared of operations, or they just don’t like it. For some reason I love it. Organizing, structure, taking something chaotic and putting it in order, that’s the thing that makes me feel good at the end of the day.
It makes more sense when you know I’m a single mom and I’ve been running a business the entire time I’ve been raising my son. When you’re the only one holding all of it, you don’t get to be disorganized. Systems aren’t a nice-to-have for me, they’re how I survive. I’d been automating my own life out of necessity long before it was ever a business. AI just made it faster.
I think what makes me different is I didn’t come at this as a developer who decided to start an agency. I come from the actual operator side. I’m the person companies used to hire directly to do exactly what I do now, just smaller.
I started NVZN in July 2025 because I was tired of watching small business owners drown. Burnout isn’t just long hours, it’s the mental load. It’s being so fried you can’t even delegate, so you stay on autopilot doing everything yourself. I’d lived that. So I knew exactly how to take it off someone’s plate.
It’s been about 11 months now, and it’s going well. We’ve built entire AI operating systems for clients, helped other clients completely overhaul how they run their marketing and social, and grown into a small team with steady clients and recurring revenue. The kind of mess I used to clean up by hand, we now build software and AI to handle. Same instinct I’ve always had, just with better tools.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, definitely not smooth. I don’t think it ever is when you’re building something from nothing.
A lot of it has just been the ebbs and flows of owning a business. Honestly, there are parts of running a company I didn’t even realize were going to be a thing until I was already in it. It’s been a real learning curve, and not just on the technical side of building these systems. The bigger one has been growing into being a business owner and a leader. Learning how to actually lead a team, coach people, and pull greatness out of them, all while still carrying so much of it myself. That part you can’t really prepare for. You just learn it as you go.
And there’s a more personal one. For the most part I feel really capable. I’ve built these systems a million times and I know what I’m doing. But I’m self-taught, and every now and then someone will ask me, “oh, how did you learn all this?” and I feel myself get a little emotional. There’s this fear that they’ll hear self-taught and assume I don’t know enough. The truth is kind of the opposite. Teaching myself is exactly why I understand it as deeply as I do. I didn’t learn it from a course, I learned it by actually building the thing, over and over, until it worked. But I’d be lying if I said that spot wasn’t a little tender.
The struggle was never really the work itself. It was growing into everything that surrounds the work.

What makes you happy?
I do get a real charge out of finishing something hard. Taking a challenge that felt impossible and actually seeing it through, that feeling at the end of the day when the thing is finally done. But I don’t think it’s the work itself that makes me happy, it’s the calm on the other side of it. I’ve built my whole life and my whole company around taking chaos and putting it in order, and there’s a specific kind of peace I feel when something messy finally makes sense. That’s the part I’m actually chasing.
The bigger thing, honestly, is my son and my family. I’m a mom, and a lot of what I do, I do so the people I love see what’s possible. Knowing I’m making them proud, knowing my son is watching me build something real, that means more to me than any checklist ever could. And if any of this ends up inspiring someone else, another woman, another single parent, anyone who feels like they’re drowning, that’s the part that really fills me up.
And then there’s the simple stuff. I’m happiest in the morning. I love a good book, a good workout, eating well, being around the people I love. I think people assume someone who runs a company is happiest when she’s working, but for me it’s kind of the opposite. The work is satisfying, but those quiet ordinary moments are the whole reason I’m doing any of it.
