Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Root.
Hi Desiree, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve never really done just one thing — my story has always been about following curiosity, creativity, and connection. I grew up in Colorado and eventually found my way to Evergreen in 2000, and this mountain town has shaped so much of who I am. Over the years, I’ve lived in different places, traveled, explored different careers, and collected experiences that all somehow wove together into what I do now.
My background is in design, which led me into creative work early on — from apparel design to jewelry making to home staging. I’ve always been drawn to creating things that feel thoughtful, intentional, and rooted in story. That creative foundation naturally expanded into real estate, where I could blend design, strategy, and human connection. Helping people move through big life transitions and making homes feel welcoming and loved has been incredibly fulfilling.
Along the way, I realized how much I care about community. That’s what inspired me to start Evergreen & Beyond — a hyper-local blog focused on spotlighting small businesses, artists, events, and the people who make this place special. It grew into hosting events, building community groups, and eventually serving on the board of the Evergreen Creative District. I love being a connector — bringing people together, amplifying local voices, and helping creativity thrive.
Today, I wear a few hats — Realtor, stager, writer, creative, community advocate — but they’re all rooted in the same intention: to create beauty, support local, and build meaningful connections. I’m still evolving, still learning, and still saying yes to what feels aligned. Evergreen is home, creativity is the thread, and community is the heart of everything I do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and I’ve learned that growth rarely is. I’ve faced uncertainty, burnout, and plenty of self-doubt along the way — especially while juggling multiple creative and entrepreneurial paths. There were financial ups and downs, moments of starting over, and lessons learned the hard way.
Balancing creativity with structure and passion with practicality has been an ongoing challenge, as has investing so deeply in community work. But every obstacle helped shape my resilience, clarify my values, and strengthen my confidence. The challenges weren’t setbacks — they were part of the foundation that got me here.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a multidisciplinary creative with a background in design, home staging, jewelry making, and storytelling. My work is rooted in creating things that feel thoughtful, grounded, and personal — whether that’s a styled space, a handmade piece, or a written story that highlights people and place.
I’m known for my eye for detail and my ability to see potential where others might not. I love refining what already exists rather than forcing something new, and I approach every project with intention and care. I’m especially drawn to work that has meaning behind it, not just aesthetic value.
What I’m most proud of is building a creative career that feels honest and aligned. I’ve carved out a path that allows me to blend creativity with real-world impact, especially through supporting local businesses and creative spaces. What sets me apart is that I don’t try to fit into one box — I let creativity evolve naturally, and I trust that process.
How do you define success?
I define success by impact. For me, it’s about making a positive difference in one way or another — whether that’s helping someone feel supported during a big transition, creating something that resonates, or strengthening the community around me.
Success isn’t just financial or external. It’s alignment, fulfillment, and knowing that the work I’m doing matters. If I’m showing up with integrity, contributing something meaningful, and leaving people or places a little better than I found them, that’s success to me.
