Today we’d like to introduce you to Desperate Electric

Hi Desperate, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Desperate Electric is a vibrant music duo featuring Kayti Korte on bass and vocals and Ben Morris on vocals, production, keys, synth, and guitar. Our journey began at Montana State University, where our shared passion for music ignited a friendship that blossomed into a deep connection over four years. After graduation, Kayti joined Ben’s soul/funk band, and we started writing songs together. Realizing we needed an outlet for our own creations, we formed our first band, Dash. This rock-driven soul band recorded an album and embarked on our first tour, cementing our love for life on the road. However, keeping a four-piece rock band together proved challenging, and after a year of trials and tribulations, we decided to strip down to a duo.

A year of full-time van-life and touring laid the foundation for Desperate Electric as we know it today. The pandemic was a massive shift for us, as it was for everyone. We had to stop touring, which gave us the opportunity to focus on rebranding, restructuring our project, and honing our sound. We started self-producing our records and crafting our live show. We’re incredibly lucky to do what we love, the way we want to do it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not… As any artist knows, making art your full-time job is both a blessing and a curse. We struggled with keeping the original band together, booking tours, and basically everything else. Balancing work and life has been a monumental challenge for us. As a two-person operation, we handle all our own booking, marketing, writing, recording, producing, and more, which takes up most of our day. It can be hard to create art when so much time is spent managing the business side of things.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Desperate Electric is a power disco duo from Montana. A blissful matrimony of futuristic R&B and retro dance grooves, Desperate Electric’s approach to songwriting and production has garnered them national acclaim in the span of a few short years. The duo’s live shows are typified by effortless vocal harmonies, uninhibited showmanship, and lethal musical prowess.

What matters most to you? Why?
Our mission is to spread joy. We want everyone who experiences our live shows or listens to our music to feel like the most inspired, fun, and confident version of themselves.
