Meet Diego Villar of Dumbbelldiego – Personal Trainer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Villar.

Hi Diego, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my career as a full-time personal trainer at the Jewish Community Center in Jacksonville, Florida, where I worked for over six years. Most of my clients were older adults recovering from age-related injuries, many just coming out of physical therapy. That experience really taught me how to build smart, sustainable programs focused on strength, mobility, and injury prevention.

Over time, I had the chance to learn from some incredible trainers in the area, which inspired me to take the next step. I moved to Denver with my partner and started my own business, shifting my focus to training clients who live more active lifestyles or are looking to level up their fitness.

Now, I get to blend everything I’ve learned—rehab-informed training, goal-driven programming, and injury prevention—to help people feel strong, capable, and confident in their bodies.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a completely smooth road, but that’s part of what’s made it so rewarding. Starting a business from the ground up is no small task—especially in a new city. One of the biggest challenges was building a client base. I had to put myself out there constantly, attending every meetup, fitness event, and social gathering I could find just to network and get my name out there.

It was a hustle, for sure. But on the flip side, it pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me the opportunity to meet all kinds of people. That’s honestly one of the best parts of what I do now—getting to work with such a wide variety of individuals, each with different goals, backgrounds, and stories. Every connection has added something valuable to the journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of Dumbbelldiego – Personal Trainer. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business focuses on strength, functional movement, and active aging training. I work with a wide range of clients—from older adults preparing for a strong, independent retirement to younger, more active individuals who love skiing, hiking, and climbing.

What sets my training apart is that I’m not just focused on what happens in the gym—I’m always thinking about how strength and movement translate into real life. For my older clients, that might mean improving balance and core strength so they can travel confidently, explore new places on foot, or carry their luggage with ease. For my more active clients, it’s about building the endurance, stability, and power they need for long days on the trail or mountain.

The second part of my business is rooted in encouraging people to get out and enjoy everything Colorado has to offer. With a growing Instagram following, I’ve started sharing my go-to spots for hiking and exploring, favorite places to eat and relax near ski resorts and trailheads, and fun things to do throughout the state. It’s become a space where I can not only inspire people to stay active, but also help them discover new experiences that support a balanced, adventurous lifestyle.

I’m most proud of the real-world impact my training has. Whether it’s helping someone regain their mobility or giving someone the confidence to take on a challenging hike, I love knowing that what we do together directly improves their quality of life outside the gym.

At the end of the day, my brand is all about strength with purpose—helping people move better, feel stronger, and stay injury-free so they can keep doing what they love, both inside and out, for years to come.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First and foremost, I have to thank my wonderful partner, Chris, who has been my biggest supporter from day one. Moving to Denver and starting from scratch was incredibly stressful—there were definitely moments when I wanted to give up. But Chris kept reminding me to follow my dreams and not to lose sight of why I started. His encouragement has been a huge part of why I kept going.

I also owe a lot to my community—my friends, my clients who’ve become friends, and fellow trainers who have been there to share advice, motivation, and honest feedback. I’ve been lucky to learn from so many talented professionals, both in person and through social media, especially during times when things felt stagnant or uncertain. Whether it’s a message from a client celebrating a small win or seeing another trainer push the envelope creatively, those moments remind me why I do this and keep me moving forward.

The success of this business has never been just about me—it’s been built on the support, energy, and inspiration of the people around me.
