Meet Dominica Brown of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominica Brown.

Hi Dominica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My photography journey started very casually. My mom bought me my first camera I want to say in 2019 and I would take it everywhere with me just for fun to take pictures of random things here and there. I started taking some portraits of friends and realized that I was actually really good at capturing what they wanted. Throughout this journey I’ve found my niche in portrait photography which has led me to where I’m at today. I started my photography business called: Behind the Lens as a way to showcase my creativity through the eyes of my camera! Behind the Lens is rapidly growing and I’m excited to see what the future holds for it!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Behind the Lens definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In the beginning I was having a hard time keeping the motivation to progress my business and also to continue to learn and grow as a photographer. Every shoot and experience is different and I really pride myself on the work that I produce so I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer and I specialize in portrait photography. I also do maternity shoots, engagement shoots, branding shoots etc. I am most proud of the growth and development it has taken me to get to the point I’m at. When I take my photos I strive to tell a story. My photos are of others but also a reflection of me and producing my clients vision is what sets me apart fom others.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been more of an introverted person growing up but the older I get the more of a people person I’ve become. As a child I danced and played volleyball and eventually transitioned all my time into focusing on volleyball. I’m a very straight forward person and if my mouth doesn’t say it then my face will definitely show it!
