Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas Jackson.
Hi Douglas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been playing music all my life. I started playing cornet at the age of eight years old in an military organization called The Highlanders Boys Band back in the 1960’s. My first paid gig at the age of 16 was with Bluesman Skeeter Davis. I when back to school at 60 and obtained an Bachelor of Science and an Master Degree,
I have three full-length album and one single to my credit and my music composition are played all over the world
Currently, I’m the music teacher a RASA Responsive Arts Steam Academy with The Denver Public Schools.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not for me because I devoted my life to the craft and to learn as much as I can. Seeking knowledge from the ones whom came before me becoming an autodidact which means self-taught to develop my own style.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been an professional musician, composer writer of my original compositions, and creator of Jazz-Funk called FUAZZ, Where The FUnk Meets The jazz. I’m proud to have my own style as a Jazz-Funk independent artist.
I play trumpet and flugelhorn and E flat horn. I perform vocal tunes as instrumental which set me a funk above the rest! Stage name is Sir DJ deHorn, The First Trumpet of Funk!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
After seeing James Brown for the first time at the age of 10, his performance changed my life and that’s all I wanting to do.
