Meet Dr. Erica Abraham of Axon Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Erica Abraham.

Hi Dr. Abraham,  we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My husband and I started our mobile chiropractic practice, Axon Health, in September 2020. It was mid-pandemic and we had just quit our jobs for various reasons. We were now faced with a decision: do we find other chiropractic jobs elsewhere, or do we just jump in and start our practice?

After each of us went for interviews at separate chiropractic practices, we quickly began to realize that working for someone else wasn’t for us. We decided to start our practice. The big problem was COVID. There was still a looming risk that we might get shut down or heavily restricted in our practices. We had no patients to pay our overhead. We were looking at spaces to call our clinic and the risk of taking on a brick-and-mortar practice just wasn’t sitting right with us.

Enter: mobile chiropractic. We decided to take care of our patients. Simultaneously, we were cutting our overhead and offering something almost nobody else was: care that comes to you. Originally, we thought we’d start mobile and then start a brick-and-mortar practice as we came out of the pandemic. What we were slowly realizing, though, was that we had unintentionally stumbled upon a niche. We were becoming “the mobile chiropractors” in Colorado Springs.

Something else we started to notice was that it’s a different experience when you go into someone’s home. We get to observe how our patients live in their day-to-day life – and it’s these activities and behaviors that impact your health. We can tailor the patient’s care to what we observe. It’s something you miss out on when you see patients in a brick-and-mortar clinic.

Fast forward to today – we are expanding. We have added a mobile massage therapist to our practice, we are about to bring on mobile IV hydration therapy, and we are about to expand to another state. The value of mobile care is becoming more and more evident the longer we do this. We get asked if we think we’ll ever open a brick-and-mortar. Our answer is “no”. We believe that health starts at home, so we believe the best place to receive your preventative and conservative care is in the comfort of your living room.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our biggest struggle has been educating people that mobile care is an option available to them. Most people just don’t know it’s an option, so they don’t go looking for it. It is an option, and it’s extremely convenient. Once our patients realize this is an option, they start to want other mobile services as well.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Axon Health?
Axon Health is a mobile practice currently offering chiropractic and massage therapy. We are about to introduce mobile IV hydration therapy and we are about to expand to another state. As long as there are busy moms who feel like getting their kids out the door is an Olympic sport, we’ll be there.

As long as there are patients who have disabilities where getting to a chiropractic appointment is a multi-hour endeavor, we’ll be there. As long as there are people who need more than 24 hours in a day, we’ll be there. We specialize in mobile care. We believe that health starts at home – so it just makes sense to have your preventative and conservative care take place in your living room.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
It makes me happy when patients realize that they can get high-quality care in the comfort of their own homes. All too often, patients struggle to drive across town, sit in a waiting room past their appointment time, and then sit in a sterile room, feeling uncomfortable and being treated like a number. It makes me happy to know we treat our patients differently.
