Meet Emily Twiss of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Twiss.

Hi Emily , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the beauty industry began more than 15 years ago through bridal and special event makeup, where I discovered a passion for helping people feel confident and empowered in their own skin. After becoming a licensed esthetician in 2015, I continued to expand my skills, eventually specializing in permanent makeup and nano brows. What started as a love for artistry evolved into a career centered on creating natural, customized results that enhance each client’s unique features.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with thousands of clients, refine my craft through advanced education, and serve as a Master Artist and Educator with Microblading LA in Southern California. These experiences deepened my understanding of both the technical and artistic aspects of permanent makeup while allowing me to mentor other artists entering the industry. My approach has always been rooted in precision, continued learning, and building genuine relationships with the people I serve.

Today, I own and operate my business in Fort Collins, Colorado, where I specialize in nano brows and offer services that reflect my belief that beauty extends beyond appearance alone. In addition to permanent makeup, I incorporate wellness practices such as sound healing and energy work, creating an experience that nurtures both inner and outer confidence. My work is guided by the philosophy that beauty is deeply personal, and my goal is to help clients feel seen, supported, and empowered through every step of their journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve experienced my share of challenges, including rebuilding my business multiple times, navigating major life transitions, and learning how to balance the demands of business ownership with personal responsibilities. One of the biggest challenges was relocating from California to Colorado and essentially starting over in a new market after spending years building a reputation and loyal clientele.

The beauty industry can also be highly competitive, and success rarely happens overnight. There were seasons of self-doubt, financial uncertainty, long hours, and moments where I questioned whether I was on the right path. As a perfectionist and artist, I’ve had to learn that growth often comes through mistakes, continual education, and the willingness to adapt.

Looking back, those challenges ultimately shaped the business and person I am today. They taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of staying connected to my purpose. Every obstacle became an opportunity to refine my skills, strengthen my confidence, and create a business that feels aligned with both my values and the experience I want to provide for my clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed esthetician, permanent makeup artist, and educator specializing in nano brows which is an advanced cosmetic tattoo technique that creates soft, natural-looking hair strokes designed to enhance each client’s unique features. My work is rooted in the belief that permanent makeup should look timeless, not trendy, and I take a highly customized approach to every set of brows I create. In addition to my beauty services, I have expanded into wellness offerings, incorporating practices such as sound healing to support a more holistic approach to self-care and confidence.

What I am most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. Brows are one of the most prominent features on the face, and many clients come to me after years of insecurity, over-tweezing, hair loss, or disappointing experiences elsewhere. Being able to help someone feel more confident in their appearance, and seeing that transformation extend beyond the physical result is incredibly rewarding.

What sets me apart is my commitment to both artistry and connection. While technical skill is essential, I believe the client experience matters just as much as the final result. I take time to understand each person’s goals, facial features, and concerns before creating a plan that feels authentic to them. My approach is conservative, detail-oriented, and focused on enhancing what already exists rather than completely changing someone’s appearance. I want my clients to leave feeling like the best version of themselves.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to be genuinely curious and willing to learn. Early in my career, I sought out opportunities to learn from people whose work I admired, whether that meant investing in education, attending industry events, asking thoughtful questions, or simply building relationships over time. The strongest mentorships often develop naturally through mutual respect and a shared passion for growth rather than approaching someone solely for what they can do for you.

Networking has been most successful for me when I’ve focused on building authentic connections rather than trying to “sell” myself. Some of the most valuable opportunities in my career have come through relationships with fellow artists, educators, business owners, and clients. Showing up consistently, supporting others, and being willing to collaborate has opened more doors than any marketing strategy ever could.
