Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Snyder.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a graphic designer, originally from Ohio (O-H!). I always wanted to be an artist, but never thought I would enjoy doing art on a computer. Then, three years out of high school, I was working a job at a hospital when I randomly decided to apply to art school during my lunch break. A few weeks later I got accepted. My original major was fine arts, but my favorite class that first semester ended up being an intro to graphic design so I switched! During my last semester of school I was an intern for my church, creating graphics for events, announcements, and sermon series. When I graduated they hired me part-time. Fast forward a few years, during which I would occasionally do freelance work for friends, family, and acquaintances, I applied to work out here in Colorado for a church in the same denomination as my church in Ohio, just full time. I packed up my things and the rest is history!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a mostly smooth road. Moving across the country when a majority of my family is back home has been a challenge to be sure. I lean a little more introverted, so it can be hard to intentionally go up to new people and introduce myself. But the people in my new church have been amazing and so welcoming. Not to mention the fact that I can just see mountains every day?! Amazing.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As previously stated, I’m a graphic designer. Surprisingly though, I really like to use any art medium that is messy: chalk, charcoal, paint, working with clay. My style lends itself to realism more than anything, but I’ve been expanding my skillset to try and think outside of the box more.
Recently I’ve been told that my design style pretty colorful. I like giving people something to look at, especially in a church setting where it’ll either need to catch people’s attention quickly or be interesting enough to stare at for about half an hour, during the sermon.
I think I’m most proud of my ability to draw faces. Growing up, any artist friends always said hands and faces were the hardest to draw and those were my two favorites! Animals, on the other hand…
