Today, we’d like to introduce you to Eric Mau. Eric was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Dion Studinski.
Hi Eric, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
Let me start out by saying that my GSD was a rescue. I rescued her when she was 7 months old. I never received a reliable story as to why she was given up, but based upon my initial first week with her, I could tell she had been neglected and locked in a crate for the majority of her life. She had never seen stairs before, she wouldn’t walk through doors, her anxiety was awful, the only person she trusted was me, she had terrible leash reactivity around other dogs, she wasn’t properly socialized as a puppy…the list goes on. I loved her too much in the short time I had known her to give her up and I was determined to help her succeed. I was apartment bound for months, I could really only leave to get groceries and MAYBE go to the gym, and even then I consistently worried about her. I work from home, so I was always around, which was part of the issue.
I did a lot of research on dog training and tried to give it a go myself but nothing seemed to be working. I found Dion and after reading all of the reviews I decided to give him a call. I was mostly scared of the price. I’m a single 25 year old and it was a lot of money to me, but after completing the training, not a day goes by that I don’t thank myself for doing it. It’s worth every single penny and I’d do it again.
Dion is so knowledgeable and will tailor the program to your own goals and your dog’s behavioral issues. Dion will give you every tool that you need to succeed. The one-on-one training is by far the best way to get the results you want. I would highly discourage a board and train because 1) you do not get to build the bond with your dog 2) you do not get to learn how to properly train your dog and fix potential future issues. Dion’s training is amazing and he will do his best to help you, but in order for you to really succeed you need to put in the work yourself. It will be daily training with your dog. The more time and effort that you put in, the more efficient your training sessions will be. I joke around and say that Dion’s training is 80% training you and 20% training the dog. Dion has given me the tools to help me take my life back and not worry about the dog when I leave, go on a walk, take her to a crowed place with high distractions etc.
At least once a day someone complements my dog’s obedience and temperament and I owe it all to Dion.
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
After graduating college I began my career in the financial services industry doing recordkeeping and compliance work for 401(k) plans. After a couple of years I decided to move to Colorado and change career paths. Currently I work in the tech industry pricing contracts for new and existing clientele.
Dion Studinski and Ancillary K9 have been great to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship with them as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about Dion Studinski and Ancillary K9 and your experience with them.
Dion made training enjoyable, which is hard to do in my opinion. Dion strives to help you understand the fundamentals of dog training; thus allowing you to modify or produce a specific behavior that you would like your dog to display. As much as it is about the physical aspect of training your dog, it’s also about your understanding how your dog’s mind works and the psychology behind it.
With Dion it’s straight to business which I loved. He was so informative and had answers to very question I asked including answers to questions I didn’t know I should be asking. He really takes the time to show you and teach you how to obtain the desired behaviors you want for your dog. He will first show you how, then ask you to repeat it and giving you corrections along the way. This involves rep after rep after rep until it’s perfect. It takes time and consistency.
