Meet Garret Gifford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garret Gifford.

Garret Gifford

Hi Garret, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My wife, Kim, and I purchased this existing franchise 21 years ago. My background was in sales and marketing management for Fortune 500 companies, I lost my job in a corporate restructuring and decided I wanted to buy a small business. We looked at several opportunities and found Fastsigns to be a good fit.

Over the past two decades, we have quadrupled the size of the business and moved to a space that is three times the size of our original location. We now have a team of nine full-time and one part-time employee, plus Kim and myself.

Our success has been based entirely on the efforts of our extraordinary team.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Over two decades, we have experienced multiple recessions, a pandemic, and typical small business growing pains.

Again, we have great employees, several of whom have been with us almost the entire time. And, we have very loyal, repeat customers who have fueled our growth over the years.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As our tagline states, our goal is to help our customers “make their statement.” So, while our product and service offerings revolve around signage, we view ourselves as a marketing communications company. Our goal is to help our clients solve their communication issues. That might be attracting more customers, enhancing their brand image, interior decor, wayfinding and safety in the workplace, etc.

We have a strong brand name that continues to grow based on the efforts of both our franchisor and the franchise network overall. Our business has been successful due primarily to the strong team we have been able to assemble over the years. We have over 100 years of signage experience and very loyal and dedicated employees.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I come from a family of teachers.

I love to play games and do outdoor activities. I still play lacrosse with a team of 60+ year-olds and am an assistant coach at a local high school. I play racquet sports and fish whenever I have the time.
