Meet Guy Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Guy Adams.

Hi Guy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Starting Dapper Doughnut Denver I was very hopeful it would be a success because it was a tried and true, franchise concept. I was very excited to invest in my own slice of what they had going. We were in Flat Irons Mall for a few months and unfortunately, as everyone else was affected as well, Covid hit shortly after opening. We needed to have a plan B at that point. So, I bought us a trailer, worked with many others to get it set up with our special equipment, and our team became an all-day capable, food trailer. Our franchise focused on our incredible batter, beautiful packaging, and marketing materials but gave us all the freedom to do what we needed to get through. We used what we could, and did what else we needed to get this thing going. Unfortunately, half of the franchises closed, while most of the others got into their own small stores and shops. With the costs here in Denver, I wanted to start with the trailer. In our food trailer, we traveled around to many locations.

Doing our delicious, freshly fried, funnel cake style, MINI doughnuts. Then we customized them to each individual’s desires. With the choice of 30 different gourmet flavors. We make all of our sauces, and use top brand items (like candy and food) to top them! We also offer Hot Cocoa, Hot Cider, and Hot Coffee. As well as Bottles Juices, Sodas, Homemade Lemonades and Waters. Lastly, ICE CREAM SUNDAES, again topped with any of those 30 flavors, or keep it an original sundae with chocolate sauce and caramel! We are just dessert at night, or breakfast for the next day! We also do just our delicious doughnuts, again a little more elevated, by doing a beautiful Doughnut Display, using a customized doughnut wall, just perfect for our MINIS, as well as a long, 3 tired stand, and flats to go with too! Perfect for any occasion! We do big and small pick up and deliveries as well! Today we are still growing, and are nothing but grateful to all of our community for their support for the last two incredible years. We wouldn’t still be here, without everything they do for us!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. But it’s also been a blessing too. I put a ton of money into the mall, then had to put more money into rotating what we were doing. Along the way, it has been nothing but trial and error. Some extreme hardship. The weather has been tough on us. Extreme heat and cold make service very difficult. Driving in terrible weather doesn’t show to be beneficial. The roads are extremely hard on everything in our trailer. So transporting everything to and from has been a learning lesson. Materials have been hard to come across, and expensive when we are able to order them. Theft has been surprising, generators stolen from us, gas tanks and cords, our mixers. Our truck and trailer has been broken into, two cats have been stolen from our truck. We have moved kitchens, storage units and parking spots many times over the past two years. Finding locations can be extremely hard. Booking up every week can be very hard. Which makes the already staffing issue for everyone, even harder for us to hire and keep staff. But we wouldn’t change anything about it. We are still learning and changing with the world. And will continue to do so.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The support, the community. How we are always coming together. To my surprise, more than I ever thought we were. We love being a part of it.
