Meet Heather Lee of Medicine Woman Retreats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Lee

Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
About Me: Journeying Through Inner Worlds

My journey has been anything but ordinary! I grew up back East, but the pull of the Rockies brought me to Colorado in the 80s for college—and it was there that I stumbled (quite literally) upon magic mushrooms for the first time.

Back then, I was already a curious seeker, diving into books by Alan Watts, Ram Dass, and Carlos Castaneda, exploring the big questions about life, consciousness, and what it means to be human. That first psilocybin experience? It wasn’t just a wild ride; it was a revelation. I knew right away that these weren’t just party substances—they were keys to unlocking inner wisdom, higher consciousness, and profound psychospiritual growth.

As I followed my passion for spiritual and humanistic psychology, my career path as a mental health clinician began to take shape. With psychedelics off the table in those early years, I turned to other tools for exploring non-ordinary states of consciousness: meditation, guided imagery, shamanic journeywork, and dreamwork. These approaches helped me guide people to connect with their own inner healing wisdom, planting the seeds for what would later blossom into my work with psychedelics.

Fast forward to now: I’m a licensed clinical therapist and one of the nation’s first certified psychedelic-assisted psychotherapists. When the opportunity to bring psychedelics into therapeutic work legally and ethically arose, I jumped at it, knowing this was the path I’d been preparing for my entire life.

My work was featured on Lisa Ling’s CBS special on the psychedelic renaissance, highlighting the transformative power of these medicines. Today, I offer safe, soulful, and legal psychedelic therapy in Colorado. I also lead retreats designed by women, for women, as the founder of Medicine Women Retreats and co-founder of Wellness and Wisdom Journeys.

Whether it’s through a one-on-one session or a group retreat, my mission remains the same: to guide people in connecting with their own inner healing wisdom and stepping into their highest potential.

When I’m not holding space for others, you’ll find me immersed in nature, curled up with a good book (old habits die hard), or dreaming up new ways to create spaces for healing and transformation.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The same week I recieved my certificate as a Certified Psychedlic Assisted Psychotherapist, after an intense year long training, I also received a breast cancer diagnosis. It was one of those crazy surreal moments where you know something important and aligned is happening despite the fear. What did I do? I went home with a new cancer diagnosis and took a macrodose of psilocybin. Talk about dancing with the devil and facing your fears! That journey was really hard but also realy beautiful and informative. I got this clear “download” that my cancer was fear turned cellular and that part of my healing need to be psychospiritual and energetic. I know the doctors could manage the physical and now had a path for healing emotionally and energetically by adressing fear based patterns of thinking. I had a double mastectomy and am cancer free and I now lead a free retreat each year for women with cancer and am piomeering the application of psilocybin assisted therapy eraly in cancer diagnosis to help peopl gain a deeper understanding of how to navigate the emotional and psychospiritual part of their dis/ease

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As a licensed and certified Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapist and retreat facilitator with Medicine Woman Retreats my focus is on guiding women to reconnect with their inner wisdom, intuition, and inner healing intelligence. I support women as they journey towards self-discovery and embracing the incredible power and inner peace within. We are living in uncertain times and we need paths to inner peace and perspective. We need the awakening of Womens Inner Wisdom!

In collaboration with the profound energy and wisdom of plant medicine, I support women in exploring and expanding their consciousness. I honor a holistic, psychospiritual approach to healing and growth, embracing the wisdom of nature.

May we all live in alignment with our passions, purpose, and path. I believe that by doing so, we contribute to the higher good of all. Let’s create a ripple effect of positivity and wisdom awakening together!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Being out in nature as remote as possible. Nature is for me the truest reality. Sitting quietly and being one with a spot in nature attuned to the sounds, scents and all the beautiful interconnected life forms…..this is happiness. This is peace
