Meet Honey and the Hive Mind

Today we’d like to introduce you to Honey and the Hive Mind.

Hi Honey and the Hive Mind, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Aidan and Dan met in high school, and started a band with some other friends. In summer of 2022, we changed our name to Honey & the Hive Mind and started playing shows in Colorado Springs. During a hiatus from the band, Dan moved to Denver for college in 2023 and met Jasper and Will at CU Denver. Aidan and Dan decided to reform Honey & the Hive Mind and asked Jasper and Will to join them.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our first drummer for Honey & the Hive Mind, while cruicial to the band’s early success in Colorado Springs, proved to be challenging to work with(in Aidan’s words a “giant asshole” and Jasper’s words a “massive douche”). He was responsible for the band’s first split in spring of 2023 and helped start the band back up. However, due to the same issues that split the band before, he was fired in spring of 2024.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in indie/garage rock reminiscent of the 90s and early 2000s, intentionally set apart from the modern bedroom indie sound that is more popular today. We take pride in writing, composing, and arranging together and creating music that is true both to what Honey & the Hive Mind is, as well as us individually and personally.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We like to joke about what our name means a lot, but we do have an actual meaning behind it(even if it was thought of after we decided the band name was sick). Us and our audience are the Hive Mind, and the music we create and the environment around it is Honey.
