Today we’d like to introduce you to Hugo Meyer.
Hi Hugo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Cordoba, Argentina, 2nd generation of German & Poland immigrants, I move to Munich, Germany when I was turning 18 and start working in the restaurant industry which I felt in love with it. In search for warmer climates, I move to Alicante, Spain, where I opened my 1st restaurant with my dad (carpe diem) were also happened to meet the love of my life and actual wife, partner in crime, and mother of my beautiful son & daughter, Victoria, she’s from Boulder Colorado and was on an interchange Colorado university student program in Spain.
We started our life together and build our 1st restaurant together in the island of San Pedro, Belize (Aji tapa bar & restaurant) where we blended Mediterranean flavors with the Caribbean. After we sold it, we opened a bigger operation in a luxury resort in San Pedro, Belize (grand caribe) which consisted on three restaurants venues:
Rain restaurant (steak and seafood fine dining)
Evoo euro bistro (romantic Italian/ Mediterranean)
Gc’s poolbar (Caribbean pool bar)
It was one centralized kitchen that served the three restaurants, rooms servicié for up to 700 guest, and catered events…
When our family start growing we decided it was time to move back to civilization and we came to Erie, Colorado, a beautiful community-oriented town which make us feel like our island-style living, we purchased some lot in old town, and build a multipurpose commercial building where we have a variety of business tenants (barbershop, Kiropractik, doctors, real estate) and we also build our restaurant (Piripi) Latin/Mediterranean where we showcase all the flavors and culture from the places we lived before.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is not smooth road in the highways of life, you just have to drive carefully, slowing down when you see speed bumps and potholes and analyze which is the best turns to take. My dad always told me that in the word impossible there is possible, so chase your dreams and with sacrifice and endurance you may get to accomplish them.
What are your plans for the future?
New location? Retirement? Family & happiness!!!
