Meet Hung Tran of Tran’s Martial Arts & Fitness Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hung Tran.

Hi Hung, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I write month message to my Tran’s Tribe community and here is one of them.

Be Someone No One Thought You Could Be

This December, Tran’s Martial Arts Longmont celebrates 27 years of teaching martial arts and serving our Longmont community. I never thought I would be in the place I am today. I am blessed and grateful for all that God has given me.

Culture tells us to spend an entire year saving for a week to escape from our life, we call it a “vacation”. Vacations are meant to be new and fun but they certainly aren’t meant to be better than normal life.

It isn’t about the 50 vacations you’ll take on this planet, but the 25,000 days between them. Why live a life that you need vacations from?

Stop living for the weekends. Stop living for vacations. Go find what it is you enjoy, find what you’re good at, and then go live there.

You know that flickering dream you have inside your head of that person you’ll be “one day when the time is right”?

We all have it, and we all pile excuses so high on top of it that some days we just can’t see it anymore.

Truth is the time will never be right. Things will never happen as you wish them to unless you start to take action now.

It’s empowering to push against the wind, but it would be soul-destroying to look back one day and say, “I wish I just followed my dreams back when I could”.

As a young refugee boy from South Vietnam, I was never chosen to lead anything and no one would have guessed that one day I would lead a great martial arts organization.

When FUD’s (fear, uncertainty & doubt|) creeps into my life sometimes, I often remind myself how far I have come since I was 13 years old (13 was when I started training in the martial arts).

If someone would have told me when I was 13…”You’re going to be a part of a movement where thousands of students will be transformed and you will become HUMBLED, TRANSPARENT, and BOLD and the instructors you have are SERVANT HEARTED and are RIDICULOUSLY TALENTED and your students are full of positive energy and sweat equity and your Parents are very involved and are always willing to help serve others”, I would have never believed it.

And we have only scratched the surface of what’s possible…Be someone no one thought you could be.

There will always be someone who can’t see your worth. Don’t let that be you.

Today. Is. The. Day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not even close. Lot of challenges, setbacks, pain, and obstacles. But I believe that your pain will be your gift someday.

Growing up, the number of Asians in my school didn’t exceed the numbers of fingers on my hand.

The word “chink, jap” we’re words that I got used to hearing but was still painful to hear each time. Long story short, I was bullied until I started standing up for myself. I took up martial arts when I was around 13 years old. The martial arts gave me the confidence but I was forced to find the strength and courage within myself when others constantly beat you down.

No matter what stage of life I am in, I can always rely on challenges to make me stronger and my mindset has been sharpen with each challenges in my life.

Control what you can control, adapt to situations the best that you can, drown out the noise, keep your head up and keep moving forward…even if it’s small steps. Stay humble but stay hungry. Be kind and help others to finish the race with you.

Embrace your place. Embrace your season. Take your position. Now is not the time to shrink back.

I am very grateful for my family and our team who keeps inspiring me to do what I love and love what I do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Tran’s, we are building something uncommon. A place where we belong to each other, look out for each other and build each other up. A place where individuals are celebrated, not sorted. In the Tran’s Tribe, we are included, mentored, and encouraged.

Tran’s is a community of people all over Boulder County experiencing a transformation and connecting with one another like never before in our history. What does that mean? It means you have found a place to make an impact and people who care about you just as you are.

Tran’s values unite us regardless of our race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Helping others in need transcends barriers and strengthens the fabric of our Tran’s Tribe culture.

We can help restore what is broken and turn it into a testimony. If you let it, this place can change you.

These days I am all about good vibes, big goals, amazing experiences, more happiness, healthy relationships, and staying focused on what matters.

YOU BELONG HERE! WELCOME HOME!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I very quiet shy refugee kid from South Vietnam and was a closet “Bruce Lee”. Martial Arts got me through some of the hardest part of my life.
