Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Brada.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been an artist, ever since I was a little girl with a giant Ziploc bag full of Crayola markers. Being a fine artist definitely isn’t easy. You really have to fight to get your work out there to an audience.
I always had jobs (that I hated) where I’m busting my butt to help someone else’s business become successful. I figured if I’m so used to working hard for other people why shouldn’t I redirect that energy towards my own dream?
I find it so much easier to work hard when it’s for my business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Haha, definitely not! Staying motivated is definitely a struggle. When you don’t have a constant stream of income it’s easy to think it’s not worth it to pursue your own business.
There are also days when I make a piece that just doesn’t work out. That can be especially discouraging if it’s something I was really excited about creating. I love making art though. It’s fun and I love learning new techniques which helps motivate me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in illustrations of animals, custom pet portraits, and spooky, Halloween-themed art. I’ve always loved drawing animals. I use bright colors and different materials such as watercolors and pastels. I started doing pet portraits about 4 years ago.
It’s always good to have a niche as a fine artist. It helps set you apart from the rest. One of the things I love most is a client’s reaction to receiving a portrait of their beloved pet. They’re always so thrilled and it makes me happy to know my work really means something to others.
