Meet Jacob Chavez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Chavez.

Jacob Chavez

Hi Jacob, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

My name is Jacob Chavez, also known as Vertex Remedy. I’m a DJ and producer from Southern Colorado, and I founded the record label Proxinized Rebirth Records. Let’s rewind to the origins of my crazy journey. It all began when I was 4 or 5 years old—I’ve always been drawn to electronic music, and I owe a lot of that to my mom. She was a techno and house music fan, and we’d listen to new electronic CDs together. Whether in the car during road trips or at home, I soaked up every beat.

Fast-forward a few years to when I moved to Denver around 2006. Denver, now known as the Bass Capital of the World, had a profound impact on my love for music. Oddly enough, I used to get bullied for my electronic music passion, but it remained my thing. When I found friends who shared my taste, I became laser-focused on my dream of becoming a producer.
Enter Skrillex—the first time I heard his music, I knew I was destined for this path. Alongside influences like Deadmau5 and Daft Punk, I envisioned a future as a masked DJ. My friend shared the same vision, and together, we planned out our masks. The iconic gas mask was born—a symbol of our shared dream.

However, life took a turn when my family moved back to the San Luis Valley during my seventh-grade year. Tragically, my friend fell ill and passed away a year later. Now, whenever I work as Vertex Remedy, I keep his memory close, honoring our dream.

After settling in the San Luis Valley, I decided to get serious about my music career. Research became my ally—I made lists of everything I needed. Some IT-savvy friends pointed me toward FL Studio, and that’s when everything changed. Under the alias “DJ Exotic,” I started making music around 2015. I even saved up a year’s worth of lunch money to buy my first controller, skipping meals because I knew the dream was bigger.

Soon, I was DJing school events—proms, homecomings—you name it. My senior year, I performed and took my wife to prom simultaneously. But then came a pivotal moment: I transitioned from DJ Exotic to Vertex Remedy. DJ Exotic felt too basic; I wanted something unique. Vertex Remedy was born—a fusion of “vertex” (meaning head) and “remedy.” To me, music is head medicine, especially for those who, like me, have struggled with mental health.

Junior year brought another turning point—I joined FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). We meticulously planned Proxinized Rebirth Records, considering algorithms, Spotify, and Apple Music’s rise. The hard work paid off—we made it to regionals with our business plan. Music, my medicine, had become my purpose.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any pursuit, the music journey has its peaks and valleys. There are moments when you feel invincible, ready to conquer the world, and others when doubt creeps in, tempting you to give up. Social media, while a powerful tool, can also be harsh—support isn’t guaranteed, and negativity can take a toll on your mental well-being.

Finances play a significant role too. Surprisingly, the costs add up quickly: software licenses, equipment, marketing—you name it. And then there’s the heartache of having your music stolen. Pouring hours into a creation, only to see it snatched away, is a gut punch. It’s a boundary that tests your resilience.

Lastly, putting Southern Colorado on the electronic music map isn’t easy, but our efforts with Proxinized Rebirth are making a difference.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Electronic producer mainly working in the Bass Music Genre such as Dubstep, Riddim, Hybrid Trap, ect. I specialize primarily in Hybrid Trap and with my recent project “Dial Up” I am starting to move towards UK Garage and Drum and Bass I am starting to develop as other producers call it “my sound” and its amazing to finally see the vision of what I have dreamt about since I was a kid come together. I also DJ often in the San Luis Valley with my record label Proxinized Rebirth. We host our own shows and throw some impressive shows.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Oh absolutely I wouldn’t be what I am today without my mentors. I don’t think they understand how much of an impact they’ve had on me and I wish they knew how grateful I am for all the advice and guidance they’ve given me. I would love to mention all of the people who have changed my life.
