Today we’d like to introduce you to Jami Snyder.
Hi Jami , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been drawn to creativity and community — the kind of space where people can gather, unwind, and make something they’re proud of. That’s really what inspired Planks & Paint DIY Workshop in Broomfield. We opened our doors with one simple goal: to create a place where everyone — whether they consider themselves crafty or not — could come in, relax, and leave with something beautiful and handmade.
What started as a few wood sign workshops has quickly grown into a full creative studio offering everything from resin art, sola wood flower arrangements, and candle pouring, hat burning & more! Over the past 7 years, we’ve become a go-to spot for girls’ nights, date nights, birthday parties, and corporate team events — all centered around creativity and connection.
More than anything, I want Planks & Paint to feel like a community workshop — a place where laughter, sawdust, and good memories mix together. It’s been amazing to see people walk in as strangers and leave as friends, covered in paint and smiles.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh, definitely not a smooth road, but I think that’s true for most small business owners. When we opened Planks & Paint, I had no idea how many hats I’d be wearing (pun intended!). From marketing and social media to inventory, staffing, and keeping up with ever-changing trends — it’s a constant learning curve.
The biggest challenge has probably been balancing creativity with the reality of running a business. It’s one thing to dream up fun workshops and events, but it’s another to make sure the numbers work, supplies are stocked, and customers keep coming back. Like many small businesses, we also navigated the ups and downs of COVID and the changes it brought to how people gather. It pushed us to pivot to survive.
There have definitely been late nights, tough seasons, and moments of doubt, but every challenge has made the studio stronger. I’ve learned to embrace flexibility, trust my gut, and celebrate the small wins along the way — because those are what keep you going.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Planks & Paint DIY Workshop, we’re all about creating experiences that blend creativity, laughter, and connection. We host hands-on workshops where guests can make everything from custom wood signs and epoxy resin art to hand-poured candles, sola wood flower arrangements, and laser-cut décor.
We’ve built a space that feels warm and welcoming — part studio, part hangout spot, and part creative therapy. Whether it’s a girls’ night out, team-building event, family celebration, or date night, we love seeing people put their phones down, grab a paintbrush (or a nail gun!), and just have fun being creative together.
In addition to our workshops, we also offer custom laser-engraved gifts — from personalized tumblers and cutting boards to unique closing gifts for realtors and thoughtful keepsakes for special occasions. Every piece is made with care right here in our studio, allowing us to offer truly one-of-a-kind items you can’t find anywhere else.
What sets us apart is the atmosphere we’ve built. We’re not a cookie-cutter franchise — every event, project, and playlist is curated with heart. We design most of our projects in-house, cut them on our own lasers, and are constantly adding new seasonal collections and workshops. Our team pours so much love and personality into what we do, and I think our guests can feel that the moment they walk in.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the community we’ve created. We’ve hosted everyone from first responders with Revital Colorado to corporate groups from local businesses, and we run Planks for a Purpose, our give-back program that supports local causes through creative fundraising events. Seeing our studio bring people together — for fun, for connection, and for good — that’s what makes me proudest.
At the end of the day, we’re more than a craft studio — we’re a place where creativity meets community. And we truly believe everyone has a creative side… sometimes you just need the right space to find it.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that growth doesn’t happen in your comfort zone — and that it’s okay to not have it all figured out. When I first started Planks & Paint, I thought success meant having a perfect plan. But what I’ve realized is that small business ownership is really about adaptability, perseverance, and heart.
There will always be unexpected challenges — slow seasons, last-minute cancellations, new trends, or just the daily chaos of juggling a million things. But every one of those moments has taught me to pivot instead of panic, to lean on my team, and to keep moving forward even when it feels messy.
I’ve also learned that community truly matters. The support from our guests, fellow small business owners, and local partners has been incredible. When you focus on creating authentic connections and doing good work, things have a way of falling into place.
Most of all, I’ve learned to celebrate progress over perfection — because sometimes the best things come from taking a chance, trusting yourself, and letting creativity lead the way.
