Meet Jane Chevalier of Take Care Mama Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Chevalier.

Hi Jane, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my career as a massage therapist in 2009, but my path into perinatal work truly began after becoming a mother during the pandemic in 2020. Take Care Mama was born out of what was missing during my own pregnancy and postpartum experience. While COVID certainly played a role, even outside of those circumstances it was incredibly difficult to find perinatal-focused care outside of Denver or Boulder at the time.

That gap became even more apparent during my postpartum recovery following a cesarean birth. I was looking for a provider who understood not only how to support scar healing, but how to do so in a way that felt nurturing and emotionally supportive. Many postpartum women, especially those recovering from C-sections, carry fear or hesitation around bodywork due to the trauma often associated with birth and surgery. When care feels overly clinical or aggressive, it can be the opposite of what a healing nervous system needs. I found myself longing for care that felt safe, calming, and respectful of both the body and the emotional experience of recovery.

That experience led me to pursue advanced training in prenatal and postpartum massage, abdominal therapy, and birth recovery. Through these professional trainings — and my own profound healing experiences — my vision for Take Care Mama Massage became clear. I wanted to create the kind of care I had been searching for: thoughtful, evidence-informed, and deeply attuned to the physical and emotional transitions women move through during motherhood.

Today, my work focuses on supporting women through fertility, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and the often-overlooked in-between seasons of motherhood. I’ve built my practice intentionally, prioritizing depth over volume, education alongside hands-on care, and long-term wellbeing over quick fixes. What began as a small massage practice has grown into a space where women feel seen, supported, and empowered in their bodies. At its core, the work has always been about the same thing — caring for mothers so they can feel stronger, safer, and more supported in their lives and families.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business while being a mother is not a smooth road by any means. I’m fortunate to have found a strong community of fellow mamapreneurs, and that support has made a huge difference. I know I’m not the only one spinning many plates at once.

Having my family as my main priority in the background has forced me to get very clear on what truly matters. It’s helped me clarify the direction of my business and become more discerning about how I spend my time and energy — which opportunities actually support my growth, which networking events are worth saying yes to, and which ones I can skip without guilt.

That said, when I do say yes, it can be hard being away from my family, especially on evenings and weekends. Owning a business is a 24/7 responsibility, and it inevitably affects family life. I’m incredibly grateful to have a supportive family who understands how deeply I love my work and believes in what I’m building. That support has made all the difference.

We’ve been impressed with Take Care Mama Massage, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Take Care Mama Massage is a perinatal-focused wellness practice dedicated to supporting women through fertility, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and the often-overlooked in-between seasons of motherhood. While massage is the foundation of my work, what I offer goes far beyond relaxation or pain relief. My practice centers on helping moms feel empowered in their bodies, supported in their nervous systems, and confident as they prepare for labor, birth, and recovery.

I specialize in prenatal and postpartum massage, abdominal therapy, cesarean scar care, and birth recovery work that is both clinically informed and deeply nurturing. During pregnancy, massage and abdominal therapy play an important role in supporting comfort, circulation, optimal fetal positioning, and a stronger mind-body connection. I approach pregnancy and birth with the understanding that moms are athletes — their bodies are doing extraordinary, demanding work and deserve to be revered, supported, and cared for with intention. I hold deep respect for the full physical and emotional experience of pregnancy, birth, and recovery.

Each session is also an opportunity for moms to practice speaking up, noticing what their body needs, and advocating for themselves. Education is woven into nearly every session, including the use of “Hooterus the Uterus,” a hands-on teaching tool that helps clients better understand their womb and the importance of caring for it. In addition to one-on-one sessions, I also offer birth education and prenatal couples massage workshops, giving families practical tools to feel more prepared, connected, and confident.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust and sense of safety I’ve built for moms. Take Care Mama is a space where moms can leave their guilt at the door and fully exhale — where it’s their turn to be nurtured and held. I’ve intentionally built a practice that prioritizes depth over volume and long-term wellbeing over quick fixes, allowing clients to feel genuinely supported and understood rather than rushed out the door.

What I want readers to know is that this work matters. Caring for moms is not a luxury — it’s foundational. When moms are supported through the major physical and emotional transitions of motherhood, the ripple effect extends far beyond the treatment room, strengthening families and communities as a whole.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is balance — in families, in communities, and in the world at large. When mothers are supported in caring for themselves, the ripple effect is real. Regulated nervous systems create healthier homes. Strong, resourced moms raise more secure children. That is how balance is built, one family at a time.

Somewhere along the way, postpartum care became optional instead of essential. Mothers were expected to “bounce back,” carry the emotional labor, and keep functioning without adequate support. That neglect created deep imbalance. The answer is not choosing women over men or dividing families further. The answer is restoring care where it was lost.

I believe in a path that honors both mothers and families as a whole. When moms are properly supported after birth — physically, emotionally, and energetically — everyone benefits. Sons grow up witnessing respect for women’s bodies and labor. Daughters grow up knowing their wellbeing matters. This is how we create true equilibrium across generations.
