Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason.
Jason, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Me Oh My was started in 2012 by Caitlin Philp out of Gib’s Bagels’ bakery. Caitlin went to school to become a teacher of English. After a couple years in the Peace Corps, working on her Master’s Degree and teaching here and there, she realized her heart was really in serving her community in other ways. Coffee and Pie.
She is now the proud mom of two little ones that keep her busy and on her toes. Her husband, Jason, who she met while working at the Bellvue Bean, has joined the Me Oh My family full time as well. So it truly has become a family business.
Following the path of a rural roadside pie stand, Me Oh My has become a place where people meet for many purposes including everything from Larimer County commissioner meetings to having a meal after hiking. By using quality ingredients and handcrafting each and every pie, Me Oh My has become well known for not only their pies but also a bunch of unique tasteful classics from family recipes and international inspirations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Considering that most of the years have either been just starting out, a pandemic, and growth during economically challenging times, We feel loved and supported by many local people. Owning a restaurant can be extremely challenging but we love providing jobs and contributing to the coffee culture of Laporte and now Loveland since 2023. The biggest challenges are the employer obligations to the state and federal governments in the form of taxes. We are committed to being responsible contributors to our community but staying profitable weekly is hard when the tax liabilities on small businesses are so demanding.
We’ve been impressed with Me Oh My Coffee and Pie, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Me Oh My Coffee and Pie is a passion restaurant started by Caitlin Philp. Caitlin is a strong believer in quality, wholesome and comforting food, positive and supportive community culture and a unique take on traditional coffee shop food fare. The quality of our pies only takes a back seat to our commitment to homemade DIY efforts. We are most proud of the people that we employ and the inspiration that having a unique shop has provided to our family and kids. We provide our space for many catered parties and fund raising efforts. and look forward to seeing our Laporte and Loveland locations grow with the communities.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Caitlin and I both come from somewhat large families that live close by and have chipped in in many ways. Such as landscaping, decorating and repairs. One of the most supportive people, aside from our parents and relative, is Claudia Schaak. Claudia has been a fan, neighbor and collaborator for most of our years in business and continues to visit the shop daily to keep and eye on things.
