Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Schofield.
Hi Jeremy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began playing music and writing songs when I was 14. Like a lot of people, I first fell in love with Classic Rock, Floyd, Zeppelin, and the Beatles and Bob Dylan were my heroes. Of course that transfers up to now; 70’s rock, 80’s new wave, 90’s grunge, 2000’s garage, I love it all. My Grandpa handed down my first guitar, and I began open mic-ing while still in high school.
I love lyrics, and my favorite thing in the world is to write lyrics, and sing them for people. I want to tell stories and elucidate the endless complex feelings that people experience all day. I had a band ’22 thru ’25, but we broke up, and now I perform and record by myself and a lead guitarist… looking for another bassist and drummer! I love recording music, and I have a growing catalogue of songs that can be streamed anywhere you listen to music.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A smooth, fun road in some aspects and a struggle in others. Everyone knows musicians don’t make a whole lot of money. Sometimes you do a gig for pennies and free beer; Spotify pays-out fractions of cents. I have a job I really like thankfully. I can’t imagine someone trying to make a living in Boulder County on just musicianship.
Furthermore, marketing myself and my music has always been difficult. I am introverted, not really into social media. A lot of fellow music colleagues that I do shows and record with are so into the Social media trends, and I just can’t get into it the same way, so perhaps I am missing out, but I am still proud of myself for the amount of listeners I’ve been able to achieve in spite of my shyness on social media.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I play guitar, sing, and write songs. I can also play bass, and a little drum and piano. I suppose I specialize in lyrics and the writing. I am not a technician, haha, I can’t shred on my guitar, and while I carry a tune fine I’m certainly no Whitney Houston; I’m all about nuance and storytelling, song composition and meaning. But not all of my songs are subtle and artsy, quite the opposite, I can get loud and bring energy, especially with a band; I love writing big choruses, I love ear candy and showmanship, too. It’s hard to explain, you’d have to come see my shows.
