Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Homestead
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Sure! I often get asked how I got started because it’s not like, at the age of 8, I aspired to become an email copywriter. Back in 2020, I got hooked into email copywriting from the very first email I wrote for my very first client. Writing fueled my passion for storytelling and heart-led persuasion.
Though I didn’t know it at the time when I started my business, I had taken my 15 years as a master teacher and literacy specialist, and expertly harnessed the power of storytelling to build genuine connections that inspire people to take action.
Now, I empower soulful women entrepreneurs and coaches in wellness, well-being, and mindset flourish their email marketing endeavors with heart-led persuasion to nurture stronger relationships and inspire their clients to take that next step with them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, definitely not. I like to say that ‘entrepreneuring’ is a wild rollercoaster ride because there are so many ups and downs along the journey. Two of my biggest struggles were around burnout and my relationship with money.
I didn’t realize all the trauma and burnout I brought into my business from my 15-year career as a teacher. It wasn’t until an intuitive coach asked me how I was doing and I broke down crying (because I had a newborn and was pushing myself in my business in unhealthy ways) — that was a big turning point for me. From there, I had 3 major shifts on how I approached self-care and self-compassion, my relationship with money, and how I had the power to choose for my life.
I learned about meditation, energy, somatic practices, and how personal growth is business growth. Now, I incorporate what I’ve learned into my email copywriting services and copy coaching program.
Even after prioritizing my needs and recovering from burnout, I found myself in an unexpected mid-life crisis two years later that smacked me fully in the face and sent me floating into the void of space.
I wondered, “Is this what I get for unplugging from the grind culture?”
I can’t hide behind endless work.
I can’t distract myself with busy tasks.
I was left with me. And I didn’t want this free time to be with myself.
During those months when I felt so un-grounded and disconnected, I went through a journey back to myself and was able to re-orbit around my purpose.
I’m grateful to my support network and coaches who have been there for me through the highs and lows.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Desk Plant Creatives?
I whole-heartedly believe that stories are what connect us. Not just at the surface level, but deep-down-roots level. That’s why I’m on a mission to elevate the stories of women entrepreneurs and coaches in wellness, wellbeing, and mindset to craft email copy that connects, compels, and soulfully sells with integrity and authenticity.
Here’s the thing when it comes to email marketing and copywriting. Most of the mainstream trainings don’t cover how to tell a compelling story, and certainly don’t provide a coaching aspect to address the mindset blocks that result in self-sabotage for many entrepreneurs.
I’ve guided 21 soulful women entrepreneurs and coaches, both veteran and emerging, through the 7 pillars of my S.T.O.R.I.E.S framework and they were able to craft open-worthy emails that get more engagement and more clicks in as little as 90 days.
And this is all through ethical copywriting that isn’t pushy and doesn’t promote FOMO, frantic buying urgency, or manipulative marketing tactics.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Funny enough, I get most of my inspiration from Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast. I find myself laughing out aloud so often when listening to his show, and even appreciate the way he uses stories and humor in the ads.
