Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Salsbury
Hi Josh, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My business partner, Collin Moran, and I had worked together on and off as woodworkers at other shops around Denver. We were always talking about this idea of an inspiring shop space where we could build our own furniture, collaborate on bigger projects, and also teach a handful of woodworking classes, sharing our knowledge and experiences and getting people excited about woodworking. After about a year of brainstorming and creating a business plan, we found a space conducive to our vision, and WoodDenCo was born!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, things are going smoothly, but each step has taken a little longer than expected. We knew going in that building out the shop would be an endeavor, but it has been extremely rewarding to set up the space with well-tuned machines, quality dust collection, and a welcoming environment. The non-woodworking elements of the business, such as marketing, legal, and taxes, can be time consuming to decipher as well, but we always view the challenges as a learning experience.
As you know, we’re big fans of WoodDenCo. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
WoodDenCo offers high-level community woodworking courses where you can bring your creative projects to life. We offer a full schedule of woodworking classes available on both evenings and weekends throughout the year. Whether you are looking to learn a new craft, pursue a DIY project, or take your existing woodworking skills to the next level, we have a program for you! In addition to woodworking instruction, WoodDenCo also offers custom furniture commissions. With over 20 years of combined building experience between Collin and I, we are seasoned professionals in furniture making.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Besides surfing some untouched powder on my snowboard, getting people excited about woodworking is tremendously fulfilling. Wood is such an amazing medium to work with. The transformation of a tree into a piece of furniture that will last for generations never ceases to amaze me.
