Today we’d like to introduce you to Julio Alejandro.
Hi Julio, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started with drawing in class with friends. I was always drawn to art. My mom would give me pieces of paper to keepm me busy and then I’ve just been lucky meeting nice people along the way who’ve given me nice opportunities. I’ve been lucky enough to work with people that are nice. I’ve just been really lucky I guess.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes and no. Things happen, things don’t happen, then things happen again. You get opportunities and then you don’t do something for a little bit but you’re still making art, you know? And people expect me to make the same art, hit me up and ask if I have any of some old work, but I don’t have any of it left. You try to do something new and they don’t like it. Having a partner that understands is helpful.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a painter, mostly known for paintings that have graphics, text, and abstraction. People have called it playful and childlike a lot. I’m also known for painting on clothes in this one shopping district in Japan. I like to organize group shows where I collaborate with people. I’m always in the collaboration spirit. Painting by yourself is boring sometimes, like a solo sport.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Instagram would be a good place to reach out for any of those. Come out to my shows or my friends’ shows. Say hi.
