Meet Justin Dabiri of Unsung Hero Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Dabiri.

Hi Justin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2015, I found myself at a bit of a crossroads. I had been out of college for two years with my degree in Sports Management and I had come to realize that working in sports was not something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was not bitter about it, yeah I spent 4 years of my life and tens of thousands of dollars on a degree that I will most likely never put to use but I met my wife working in sports. I’d gladly do it again for that result!

It was time to make a change. I got lucky and then took a risk. I landed a sales job working for an automotive tech company selling their SAAS digital marketing tech to car dealerships in Colorado. I ended up being good at it. I was able to pay off my college a year later and also was named the top-selling sales rep. in my first full year at the company.

However, while I was grateful for my success. I begin to take on a lot of stress and anxiety from my new career. The stress of hitting my sales number, the stress of remaining the best, and the anxiety that all sales jobs come with. If you don’t perform, you could lose your job.

The stress began to affect my personal life. I was often drifting off in thought, failing to be present. I was easily agitated and so mentally exhausted after every workday that I spent most evenings just sitting on the couch zoning out on tv or my phone. I soon became out of shape and developed poor eating habits. My life was out of balance.

So I started researching the best ways to regain balance, increase productivity, and build healthy habits. This is where I first discovered productivity planners. I could not believe how effective these planners were at reducing my anxiety and giving me a sense of control that help reduce my stress as well.

Yet, while loved utilizing a productivity planner, I did not love my productivity planner options. I didn’t like the layouts on some, the size of others, or the lack of consistency and direction a lot of them provided.

Over the next five years, I started designing my own productivity planners using printer paper. I developed my own goal-tacking philosophy (The 4 Pillars). I tested out multiple designs, layouts, different paper quality, sizes of journals, etc. Eventually, after all this work, the Unsung Hero Journal was born!

When 2022 rolled around, I was ready to take the next step. Found a supplier, moved my notebook planner designs into InDesign, and finally began production on the Unsung Hero Journal.

I officially launched the Unsung Hero Journal in May of 2022.

While the Unsung Hero Journal has been selling at steadily since we launched and I have received rave reviews. I had it tested by a dozen or so mindset and productivity experts and they all have endorsed the Unsung Hero Journal as well!

I hope to develop the company into a lifestyle brand as well. A brand that people love to wear the logo as it represents their dedication to getting better every single day!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As the old adage goes, ” You make plans and gold laughs.”

Covid presented a challenge. Supply chain issues caused my costs to go up and delayed the launch of the Unsung Hero’s Journal by three months. The cost increase hurt the initial launch strategy as well which was a setback in itself since Unsung Hero Co is 100% self-funded.

I am figuring out how to run a growing online business (all on my own) while having a newborn and working a full-time high-demand job,

Every day is an obstacle but I love it. It makes each day interesting and each day is an opportunity to learn something new.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Unsung Hero Co. Is a Productivity Company. There is no finish line in life. I think a lot of my own personal stress came from not accepting that simple fact. Our mission is to help people get better every single day. It is an infinite mission and mindset. Accepting there is no finish line in life and striving to be better every day allows you to stop chasing that finish line in hopes that you will one day reach your potential. Your potential has no ceiling. As long as you have air in your lungs, you can grow, learn, and get better.

Our productivity planner, the Unsung Hero Journal, is what we are known for and is built on this mission. Utilizing our proprietary goal achievement system, The 4 Pillars, and other scientifically proven productivity methods like habit tracking, affirmations, reflection, journaling, planning, etc. you will increase your productivity, and establish a foundation of healthy morning and nightly habits, and a balanced lifestyle.

I am very proud of the high quality of the Unsung Hero Journal and the fact that I charge $20 less than other competitors of the same quality. The Unsung Hero Journal is a vegan leather hardcover journal with a lay-flat design and 80lb 120gsm fountain pen-friendly paper.

I had my journal tested by at least a dozen mindset and productivity experts and they came back with raving reviews on the Unsung Hero Journal.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be having my mom and my older sister look after me after we left my dad due to his addiction. It was tough on everyone but I was in awe of their strength really rubbed off on me. I was a travel hockey player and for my mom to work three jobs to keep me away from bad influences and in skates is enough inspiration for a lifetime.
