Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Gunn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up on my grandparents 25 acres in Woodville Florida. I’ve always had animals. I was a vet tech for five years in Florida, then moved to Denver in 1996 when I was 23 years old. That same year I met my partner Mike King. In 1998 I became a cosmetologist. In 2004 we moved to a 2.5 acre place in Brighton and in 2010 we moved to a 35 acre ranch. In the last five years I’ve been rehabilitating wildlife.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning I was spending a lot of my own money rehabbing wildlife, then shortly realizing that I needed to fundraise to be able to take care of more of Colorado’s wildlife.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work as a hairstylist and nail technician two days a week in Brighton and have licensed for that for almost 23 years. Now I’m a licensed wildlife Rehabitator and work 7 days a week doing that. My nonprofit is totally Voluteer based. No one makes any money from that, not even me. It is 100% public donations that run this and all the money goes towards the animals and taking care of them.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
All the volunteers that help me. I couldn’t do this without them
Pricing:
- It usually takes $300-$500 per animal to get them back into the wild
