Meet Kelcey Hostetler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelcey Hostetler.

Kelcey Hostetler

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got my start in the wine industry from my food and wine-loving family who helped foster a healthy obsession with the culinary world.

I’ve been fascinated by wine since visiting vineyards in France on a summer vacation in college. Before getting into the wholesale side of the industry, I worked as a personal chef partnering with clients to create and prepare menus based on their tastes, dietary restrictions, and wine preferences.

I started in the industry as a merchandiser before working my way up to sales. After working on the distro side for the last 7 years, I’ve become even more enthralled with learning everything about wine and sharing that passion with others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say one of the biggest challenges is that this is a very male dominated industry, not unlike a lot of others, unfortunately. So finding a place takes a bit more effort and patience. But I’m so encouraged by the amount of women who help lift each other up and support one another to make the beverage industry safer and more diverse. I’m so thankful for the community of strong women I’ve found that I’ve leaned on and learned from who have helped me grow.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work with a small wine and spirits wholesale distribution company specializing in producers that are boutique and family-run. We work mostly with wineries and distilleries that emphasize organic, biodynamic, and sustainable practices.

We also love to support our independent and locally-owned restaurants and liquor stores. Chains and grocery stores started selling wine this year which has negatively impacted many local independent retailers. Our goal is to promote and work with other small businesses to keep the Colorado market flush with unique wines and spirits.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
My community matters most to me. Not only my friends and family and spending as much time with them as possible, but also the overall community where we live and work. By supporting locally owned businesses, and maintaining open spaces where we get to experience nature, we can create a thriving community to be proud of.
